Miller feels recruit visit in Michigan went well

Dayton coach Archie Miller visited both signed Flyer recruits in Michigan in the last few days and was pleased with how those meetings went.

Seniors Percy Gibson and LaDontae Henton both signed letters-of-intent to attend UD but have been reconsidering their decisions since coach Brian Gregory’s departure. The recruits can ask for a release from UD and go elsewhere without penalty if the school agrees to let them go, which is usually the case.

Gibson and Henton said Sunday they haven’t made up their minds yet about UD.

“I would just say from my standpoint, they’re terrific people,” Miller said. “They would fall in line with the high character people we have on the team. You want to stay away from the 24- or 48-hour mood swings and roller-coaster rides in this. Our time together was very positive, and both have really quality families.”

Thanks Arhie for making them a priority. It will mean a lot the program if they decide to come to UD.

For your sake Archie, I hope they still come because you’re going to need them. This team needs some decent young freshman players to develop, and who can also help out this coming season. It would really hurt the program to lose either one of them.

Archie…Archie…Archie…Why did you meet them at Dunkin Donuts??? I thought you were going to run a first class operation… This is a great recruit I hope you didn’t blow it!!! I hope you didn’t dump his prize donut??? 1st poor decision??? We’re counting Archie, you Meat Head!

Did I miss something between this article and the other article in which Percy Gibson said it was an OK meeting, but that he still is deciding what he wants to do? This article makes it sound like things are progressing forward and that these guys are likely to come to UD even though it also says they haven’t made up thier minds yet. I am very confused…Also, the other article had Henton’s coach saying they had time to make their decision. They don’t have a lot of time to make their minds up. A lot of schools and I mean a lot of big time programs don’t have scholarships to give them at this point. They almost need to come to UD give it a shot and see what happens after this season. I do hope they decide to come to Dayton and see what a good place it is to be and that we have a coach who will develop them. Go Flyers!

the michigan recruits signed a loi, so they can’t back out of it. they are forced to come to ud.

Marty, technically, they are forced to come to UD, but since GT moved up to GT, it would hurt UD in the future if they did not let the kids out of their LOI. If the Michigan recruits are capable of playing in the ACC (a BIG If), then I am okay with them leaving for a big program.

If Percy and LaDontae were big time recruits, then a big school would have signed them initially. I think they are probably happy playing in a mid-major conference. In the ACC, they would get destroyed.

Trouble right here in the Gem City. Next year is starting to get the feel of a disaster- obviously making the “dream” team in a State like Michigan carries a great deal of weight with college recruiters -it’s not Idaho- and anyone who thinks that there are not quality schools after these 2 is naive (there are a number of Michigan players going to OSU, MSU and Michigan (among others) next year and only 2 others were seniors who made the dream team). So our new little Napoleon is in no rush to show these guys how important they are by meeting with them the first minute that he can, then he meets with one in the “privacy” of a Dunkin Donuts and then he lets our key recruiter in Michigan and Illinois go(where we have had our greatest success and who is these recruits’ guy)- when it seems like he wanted to stay. I was praying they would stay but I think I got my answer with this article. Take a look at next year’s team without them and JS and BS and see where UD is headed- at least little archie won’t be able to substitute at every stoppage of time as he won’t have enough talent. Once UD starts to show weakness the recruiting becomes more difficult. He was given a solid base if he keeps the recruits- still hoping- if he doesn’t, it’s his fault for the way he handled this and that’s strike one. I’m starting to wish we went with someone like the Oakland coach who seems more grounded.

Going to Dunkin Donuts was the recruits choice, in all probability. And no it’s not a high profile location. To the other poster- JS’ and BS’ leaving had nothing to do with Miller. I wish I had comments from when Gregory was selected. Did he get all this negative stuff? Or is is because, Miller at one time was associated with X? All this stretching to find negative about Miller is a bit much. Go Miller! Go Flyers!

Who cares about Percy and LaDontae??? They are both losers. They will end up at some podunk bass-akwards school. We don’t need L-O-S-E-R-S on this team. We will be better without them. Good riddance.

It becomes more clear every day how much Brian Gregory put UD’s once-fine program into ruins.

They are going to be gone and we now have 4 scholarships to give to whom for next year. We have to have bodies and we will have wasted these on guys not good enough for big time college basketball. Next year is gonna be a bad one. Good luck recruiting Archie, you gonna need a whole lot of it! Go Flyers!

Even with the loss of these recruits, think we are going to be fine. Archie Miller will get us the results we want, everyone who knows anything about the guy says he is top notch. Give him some time to get his staff together and get the players he wants.

So why didn’t Archie keep this Mann as an assistant coach? From what I cna gather he is a good recruiter and he wanted to stay. It would have made for a more seamless transition. I may be the only one but the comment “They should be wathing film on me” from the head coach, along with this recruiting situation is giving me a sinking feeling. Please tell me why I am wrong. Thanks
