Gregory picks assistant coach
Former Dayton coach Brian Gregory has added an assistant coach to his staff at Georgia Tech.
New UD coach Archie Miller is still putting together his staff. Gregorys associate head coach Billy Schmidt likely won’t be back, nor will Jon Borovich, who took a job with Northern Illinois. Assistant Cornell Mann could possibly keep his job with the Flyers. He has been a confidant for the UD players since his arrival a couple of years ago.
From the Georgia Tech Web site:
Chad Dollar, a 12-year veteran as a Division I assistant coach who played high school basketball in the Atlanta area, has joined the Georgia Tech basketball staff.
Dollar comes to Tech after spending the 2010-11 season at Wichita State, which won the NIT championship, went 29-8 overall and finished second in the Missouri Valley Conference regular season under head coach Gregg Marshall.
“I’m excited about bringing in a coach of the quality of Chad Dollar into the Georgia Tech program,” said Gregory. “He is a tremendous recruiter, but also a great teacher of the game. The Dollar name in the city of Atlanta and in the surrounding areas is well known in basketball circles. I know he’ll do great things here.”
Before going to Wichita State, Dollar spent three seasons as an assistant coach under John Brady, two at Arkansas State (2008-10) and one at LSU (2007-08). Prior to LSU, Dollar coached the 2006-07 campaign at Murray State and spent four seasons (2002-06) as an assistant at Georgia Southern. He was also an associate head coach at Eastern Kentucky (2001-02) under Travis Ford and served two seasons (1999-2001) on the staff at Western Carolina.
“The chance to join Coach Gregory, one of the top coaches in the country, and to come back home is an unbelievable opportunity for me,” said Dollar. “I look forward to helping the Georgia Tech program get to the place where it needs to be in the ACC and the nation.”

His NIT experience should serve him well.

I hope that Brian Gregory does not ask our Michigan recruits to join him at Georgia Tech. If he steals our recruits, I’ll lose all respect for BG.

who cares why are you still writing about a coach that no longer is here. Really how bout an article of prospective assistants or interviews with players.

Seriously Doug? We all know you were and still are a BG homer but enough is enough. Time to start doing some real reporting on UD stuff. You have been the last to report on every major event of the last month. Thank god for Matt schwade and The Blackburn Review.

BG has every right to take the Michigan recruits to Georgia Tech. BG is the one who they signed with and they very well could end up at GT.

Doug Harris. Please get your facts straight. Miller told Mann the day after he was hired that he was NOT keeping him and after everything Mann did to keep the program calm and to support the players and incoming recruits after BG announced he was leaving, Wabler should have supported Mann keeping his job. Loyalty apparently isn’t valued at the University of Dayton. Wait it out, he will not be coaching at Dayton anymore. The first, I’m sure, of many mistakes Miller will make.

I would like to see AM bring a whole new crew of coaches to UD.Start with a clean house..We flyer faithful are ready for a new style and a fresh approach…I’m sure AM has a long list of potential assistants that are very worthy.

Honest Flyer…what a miserable existence it is that you must live. Did you witness the conversation between Miller and Mann?

I agree, who gives a crap about what Gregory does at GT. What about Miller and UD? Doug, is Archie not confiding in you? Not feeling the love?

(1) BG has already publicaly commented that he would not pursue the 2 recruits (2) Honest is an idiot -no decision has been made on Mann and in fact if you go to the official UD basketball page,he is the only former assistant still listed - that doesn’t mean he will be here next year, but if was decided, his name would be removed as well

I wish Gregory the best. Since he has moved on, what he does really isnt news anymore. —Are they really going to require GT to play the Flyers in a home and home? Isnt that like salt in a wound?

I heard Archie Miller on Mark Schlemmers show last week and didn’t appreciate his lack of respect for the UD program. When he said NC State is a big boy program. Did he mean UD wasn’t a good program? I believe that UD is a top 30 program in all aspects. I guess he doesn’t.

Rumor has it that 5star recruit Andrew Harrison of Strake Jesuit in Houston in thinking about UD. In just one week we now have a big time recruit on the map. Other suiters include Kansas and a&m. Chad Dollar related to Cameron Dollar?
