Woman stiffs cab driver after bar hopping

A woman racked up a whopping $5.35 cab fare and then walked home without paying the driver, according to a police report.

The 68-year-old woman was picked up at Webster Station bar downtown and asked to be driven to Chris’ Band Box about 20 blocks east on Third Street. When the staff there wouldn’t allow her in the bar, she asked the cab driver to take her to Connell’s Bar, which is one block away.

Her total fare was $5.35, but she only gave the driver $3.34. She said she would get more cash inside the bar. Unfortunately she was once again asked to leave by bar staff.

She said she would walk to her house, just around the corner on Hedges Street and get more money. The driver informed her he would keep the meter running and that he was calling the police.

When an officer arrived she hadn’t returned and the meter was at $13.80.

Located at her apartment building, she claimed she paid the driver by giving him a couple bucks. When told she needed to pay $10 more she tried to borrow money from a neighbor, then became belligerent and defiant.

She was ordered to make an appearance at the prosecutor’s office and could face a misdemeanor theft charge.
