Teen with gun stopped by police
This can get you killed.
A Riverside officer was on patrol just after midnight this morning, July 15, when he spotted a man and a woman walking down the middle of the street. Other officers on another assignment had reported the pair in the neighborhood.
The officer pulled up behind the two to find out what was going on. Both said they had identification and as they started to produce them, the 18-year-old man started to back away, reaching toward his back left side. The officer, concerned with the behavior, asked if either one had a weapon. The 18-year-old lifted the left side of his shirt and said, “I have a gun,” according to the police report.
The officer drew his weapon and ordered the 18-year-old to the ground. The officer then radioed for backup. During the wait for backup, the 18-year-old twice moved his arms into a position as if he were going to rise. The officer ordered him to stay down, otherwise he was going to be shot.
Backup arrived, the 18-year-old cuffed and .38-caliber revolver removed from his front left pocket. Officers determined the gun was not loaded.
The 18-year-old was taken to the county lockup. He has an initial court appearance this afternoon on possible first-degree misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon.
