Woman: Theft was for a good cause
The 31-year-old woman told Grandview Hospital Police the $57.62 worth of hospital supplies she stuffed into two plastic bags were going to a good cause.
“I’m taking it for a good cause,” she said, according to the Tuesday, July 6, police report. “My friend is a dope addict, and I’m trying to help him.”
It was unclear how a hospital gown, five tubes of lubricating jelly, a box of Bandaids, a towelette, two boxes of tissues, a bio bag and a TV remote were going to help her friend. She also had a box of alcohol swabs and four syringes, the report said.
According to hospital police, they were alerted by an emergency room nurse that the woman was shoving the swag into two plastic bags. When stopped, the report said the woman today told hospital police: “I don’t see what the big deal is. Who cares about this petty (stuff).”
Apparently hospital and Dayton police did. Instead, Dayton police took her to the county lockup. She has a court appearance Tuesday afternoon with the possibility of misdemeanor theft charges.
