Eastside brawl sends three to county lockup

A brawl on the East Side sent three people to the county lockup on various misdemeanors Sunday night, April 19.

At one point, an officer had to use his Taser to take down one of the fighters.

According to police reports, officers were called to the 1400 block of Xenia for what callers described as a large brawl in the street. When they arrived, the fighters — both male and female — scattered, leaving five men. Those five all said they were just spectators and described the fight as a “girl fight” in which some boyfriends jumped in.

After no one came forward with a complaint, the officers left — except for one who parked in a nearby alley, waiting to see if the fight would flare up after officers left. It did on nearby Pritz Street.

The officer said he saw one man, 20-year-old John Storer, armed with a large rock or brick, chase a man into a nearby house, threatening to kill the man if he came outside again. The officer drew his sidearm, pointed it at Storer and ordered him to drop the rock and drop to the ground. As the officer tried to control the situation, Storer’s fiancee, Krystal Ruemping, stepped between the officer and Storer. The officer pushed the 25-year-old to the side and got Storer to put down the rock and lay on the ground.

While the officer was dealing with Storer, the man who he was chasing — Carl Adkins, 37 — came running out of the house and attempted to attack another man. The officer yelled at Adkins several times before pulling his Taser and using it on Adkins, who “feel easily to the sidewalk.”

Storer, Ruemping and Adkins all were taken to the county lockup. Adkins was booked on misdemeanor assault, menacing and obstruction. Storer was booked on misdemeanor menacing, and Ruemping on obstruction.

Ruemping said the whole matter started when Adkins threw a brick at her.

Adkins told officers it was pretty stupid of him to come outside and fight with the officer standing right there.
