Deputies visited couple’s home weeks before murder-suicide
HARRISON TWP., Montgomery County - A couple found dead inside their home of an apparent murder suicide Thursday morning had called Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies weeks before to settle a domestic dispute, the Dayton Daily News has learned.
Carolyn Gunsauley called 911 on May 20 to report that her husband William P. Gunsauley Jr. had locked her out of the house on purpose, Major Scott Landis said Friday, June 5.
No charges were filed then and the couple seemed to reconcile, Landis said.
Deputies responded to the Gunsauley’s home at 5285 Cypress Drive again Thursday to find the couple dead from gunshot wounds to the head, Sheriff Phil Plummer said.
A 16-year-old boy who lived with the couple at 5285 Cypress Drive discovered his grandparents dead inside the residence about 11 a.m. with gunshot wounds to their heads, Plummer said.
The boy talked with William, 62, and Carolyn, 57, just before mowing the grass and came back inside after finishing the yard work, Plummer said.
It is still unclear who shot whom, Landis said. Investigators are waiting for the coroner’s office to determine who pulled the trigger, he said.
Sheriff’s deputies were notified of the shooting after Carolyn Gunsauley’s daughter arrived at the home after being called by the boy, according to audio from a 911 call.
Deputies discovered a small semi-automatic handgun in the house near William Gunsauley, Plummer said. There were no signs of forced entry, Landis said.
“It doesn’t seem like there was a fight,” Landis said.
The daughter who called 911 said the couple had been having marital problems and her mother recently seemed “distant,” according to the 911 audio.
