I think they should have given it one more shot. Last year the weather was bad, very cold and a lot of ice. We went down one night even though there was ice and KI was closed. No announcements at all. They should know it would be a bad run with the weather we had and them closed most of it. The new owners should have tried again and hope for better weather (no ice!) Also a few told me they thought it was pretty but if you didn’t ice skate they wasn’t much to do. More rides should’ve been open

I was at Winterfest in the 80’s na last year also. Last was a total dump compared to the 80’s. It was much better in the 80’s. We had tickets for this year hoping with the new owners it would improve. Now we will never know.

It’s sad to see it go, but I went last year and the turn out was horrible. I don’t blame them for getting rid of it. It was an awesome set up, and well worth the price. I have been to the old Winterfest, and it did not own up to the 2006 winterfest. I really don’t find a problem with Kings Islands prices….They are running a business NOT a charity. If you don’t like the park, then don’t go. It keeps the lines shorter for those of us who still love Kings Island no matter what.

continuation from my last post>I hope that the new owners repair the rides that need repaired and bring down the prices to attend. They are just getting too high. It’s not Disneyland or anything like that.

Kings’ Island’s Winterfest will be missed. It was missed when it ended a while back. I, for one, was glad that they brought it back…and to find out that there’ll be no more Winterfest. I didn’t get to go last year because it was my first year having Thanksgiving for my husband’s side and having Christmas for my side last year. I was looking forward to it this year because I would truly be able to enjoy it. Since there will be no more Winterfest, I hope the new owners repair the rides for

Hello! All! If you want to do something as a family at Christmas time why not go to the Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo? You can spend the Whole Day there! Enjoy the Zoo during the day and the Lights after 5PM. :)

And they should care about the money, because without KI turning a profit, Cedar Fair will likely shut it down, then where will you be?

My family went to Winterfest last year. I have to admit even with the revamping it left to many holes. There were areas that had nothing going on, not even lights for long periods of time. Also, the weather was very cold during the time Winterfest was open. I agree they need to give it more time.

It’s a shame. Kings Island is a beautiful park and enjoyed by many. I visited the park in 92when we were on leave . It’s truly a magical place . I am sure winterfest will be missed by the people of ohio . I don’t live there but i loved the beauty of the park . The kids deserve something fun to do. Come on Kings Island make a few dreams come true.

Hate to see Winterfest go but the all mighty dollar always wins. I have gone to KI for about 20 years and have been a season card holder for many many years. All the profits they make you would think they would put in back into the park like maintaining the equiptment and safety procedures first and then designing new rides. But cuting out winterfest to help the profit level will not help the already declining park. God Bless and stay safe.

Come on people. The company that owns it is the company that owns Cedar Point. They know how to do this. I think once they get their legs under them, we’ll all be happy with the changes. I Hope!

Staffing is one of the major problems at Kings Island. Kids do not want to work over winter break nor do the full time employees want to work over the holidays. Let’s not forget the affect weather has on attendance. It was a joint decision between Cedar Fair and KI employees to drop Winterfest. Oh yes, tell me what business out there doesn’t do things based on profit. Want the holiday spirit, go to church. (I’ve been with KI for 9 seasons, I know of what I speak)

There are so many things to see and do during the Christmas holidays that it makes good sense to forgo a money losing project so that the loss does not have to be made up in the summer.

They shouldn’t cancel it. Once year is not enough time to see if it really goes. I was hoping the new owners would stop the downward slide of Kings Island; guess not. The only reason we have a season pass is for the waterpark. They are taking away all of the grown-up but not rollercoaster rides. How very sad.

it’s a lot tougher to staff and orchestrate an event like Winterfest than you are giving PKI credit for. Yes it’s fun and beautiful, but unless some form of government wants to step up to subsidize the project, why would PKI purposefully lose money…

Do you really think the “true meaning of Christmas” has anything to do with an amusement park decorated with twinkling light? Some quiet introspection this Christmas might be a good alternative …

Unfortunately, the owners have decided that making a profit on Halloween is a better public image than sharing the true meaning of Christmas. How sad.

Unfortunately, the owners have decided making money from Halloween, which, in my opinion, has turned into a holiday of celebrating the evilness in this world, is a better public image than sharing the true meaning of Christmas at Winterfest. How sad.

Winterfest was my most pleasurable experience in the park.I believe with some innovative and brain storming ideas it could have blossomed into a win win for both guest and owners.

So sad! We went last year when they offered buy-one-get-one free tickets(too expensive otherwise)and our daughter had a wonderful time. We were planning to go this year too. They have had the Winterfest tickets on sale all season on the website for just 10 bucks and have probably not sold enough to make it worth the gamble of having it again this year. I was hoping the tradition would continue, but we can’t have everything we want! Hopefully, the new owners will focus on a clean and safe park

Overpriced?? You must be blue collar, poor folk who doesn’t go to Florida for the winter. Anyways, it was NOT overpriced. I think they waited, they being PKI to bring Winterfest back. Many had forgotten what Winterfest was like 13 years ago. Besides who would want to go to PKI in the winter, no matter how great Winterfest is, most associate PKI with summer.

I was excited last year when I heard that Winterfest was back. However our family did not attend because it was way overpriced. Our season pass should have covered the admission price.

Our family had Season Passes for Kings Island from 1981 until 1996. Winterfest was included in the price of the season pass. This is the primary reason why we quit getting season passes to Kings Island when they dropped Winterfest. We actually got season passes to Disney World. We would do a couple weeks there at least once a year or more. Still going to Disney World every year. Haven’t been to Kings Island in 7 years.

When we learned that the price was surprisingly high, my family decided not to attend as we believe the season pass should have covered admission. This is how it works at the zoo.

I just hope they invest money in the park, I will be happy, the Winterfest, should have been included in the season pass anyway, more people would have went.

Thanks,

I think they are making a smart move.Granted, many people like the whole winterfest extraviganza and I am one of them but…I think the park needs to concentrate on making the park safer and bring in some new attractions.

What is the point of Christmas lights during daylight hours? Maybe that is why it was only opened during the evening? It’s not rocket science…Go to the Zoo, the lights are better, and the climb up Kilamanjaro is good for the miswest hips.

I just loved Wintryfest. The big tree reminded me of back home. I remember meemaw on the ice, and the kids all about.
Hopefully they’s gona get a good coaster now, something like SOB.

Get a freakin’ clue Bryan…it’s about profits. Would you want your beloved King’s Island not to build the next greatest roller coaster because they lost money on their Winterfest venture? They are staying true to what they are…a true amusement park with thrill rides and a great kids area…simple as that…that is where the dinero is to be made.

It is sad that KI didn’t give Winterfest another chance. But a great alternative is the holiday celebration at The Beach. Although you do not have the rides, you will find the Christmas spirit overflowing.

No wonder…the price was WAY too high for what you got…too high to take a family! It didn’t open until evening and was only open for 5 or 6 hours. We were SO excited to hear it was re-opening until we heard the price. That stopped us from going.

That’s more than a bit disappointing. Just because it didn’t do great in its first year after a 13-year hiatus, they’re going to cancel it? They should at least let people who have been get the word out about it and see what the turnout is like this year. Talk about jumping the gun.

As an adult without kids, it is hard for me to get into the holiday spirt. And WinterFest really got me feeling it last year. It is a shame that Cedar Fair Co. isn’t going to give it another year. I mean it has only been back for one year.
