Cincinnati Bengals Trivia: Who Am I? (Plus, a little bit of ‘Hard Knocks’ fallout

• I hail from The Bluegrass State.

• I was born the same year Chick Ludwig graduated from The Ohio State University.

• I didn’t last long in the NFL.

• The Bengals were my only NFL team.

• In college, I set a Conference USA single-game record with four TD receptions against the University of Houston.

WHO AM I?

And now, for some “Hard Knocks” Fallout:

Chick:

“Hope you have been doing well over the last few months. Last time I wrote was when I complained after the draft.

“I am happy the Bengals will be the featured team this summer on Hard Knocks. I look forward to watching. I am glad the team will have to endure the scrutiny of the HBO cameras. It will be one additional aspect of training camp that will motivate them to practice and play well. My main worry is that Chad will not be able to handle it.

“I want so bad for this team to be successful this year. I just want the organization and Marvin to create a culture where that can take place. I think the talent is there. the question is if the structure is there. You have heard me say this too may times.

“Hope you had a wonderful Fourth of July. Were you in Delhi? I ran into some folks here in Cleveland from Delhi Township a month ago. They lived off of Anderson Ferry. Most people in the township do.”

Peace, Paul

The cool thing about covering the Bengals for 12 years is getting to know the alums, and staying in touch with them. In the last 24 hours, I’ve been in touch with Gunnard Twyner and James Hundon. You’ll be reading where-are-they-now on both guys real soon. Cheers, Chick

This Chuck Lidwig dude is, always was, and always will be a walking sports encyclopedia. I’m #85. Lavell Boyd. Born 9/12/1976 in Louisville, KY. Played college ball at The University of Louisville. Had 173 yards receiving that day against Houston. Played for the Bengals in 2000.

Bob V: I remember “Sweet Louella” (did I spell it correctly?) fixing us bacon & eggs back in the day … and Roy (Hobbs) Von Gries telling his baseball and football stories to a couple of wide-eyed kids hungry for sports knowledge. And I remember those warm summer nights with the Sullivans, listening to country-western music, and sippin’ a few cold ones. Man, oh, man, I miss those days. Cheers, Chick, and thanks for being a loyal “Ludwig At Large” reader. My next “Who am I” is gonna stump everybody!

Chick, Loving Memories of Luella and Roy live on forever and there is still that occasional evening with the Sully’s where you can hear Mickey Gilley, and Willie & Waylon while sippin’ a few cold ones. Sounds like the “Who am I” clues will tighten a bit?
