Have you ever pretended to use a cell phone to avoid talking to someone?
Have you ever pretended to use a cell phone to avoid talking to someone? Thirteen percent of respondents in a recent survey admitted doing so.
ANGELA BROWN, West Carrollton: “I think I’m genuinely addicted to mine. There’s a reason they call it a Crackberry. If you see me on my cell, I’m not pretending to use it.”
MARKITA BELL, Harrison Twp.: “I do it all the time. I do it when I don’t want to engage in conversation with the person approaching me, maybe somebody who is trouble or annoying, someone I don’t want to be involved with.”
EARL THOMPSON, Dayton: “I personally haven’t. I would just turn and walk away to avoid someone. But I’d be nice about it. There’s no need to be rude.”
AYREON WILKINSON, Dayton: “Yes. My friends and I will be sitting outside, and people will drive by looking at us, and I’ll get on the phone and pretend I’m calling my mom or a friend.”
KENNETH MURILLO, Durham, N.C.: “I haven’t, but my friend has. Once he walked away and zoned out on the phone because he didn’t want to be in on a conversation we were having with another person. He just left me hanging there.”
