How much does Time Warner’s dispute about 2 local stations bother you?
Time Warner Cable will drop two Dayton stations — Fox 45 and ABC 22 — if contract negotiations aren’t settled by the end of the year. Does that bother you?
ORTHA HAYNES, Vandalia: “Yes, it does. I watch those channels, and I don’t want them to take them off. I was thinking about calling Time-Warner and letting them know I’m not happy with that.”
TIFFANI CHAMPION, Dayton: “It won’t bother me. You can turn the cable off and still get those stations. But some people don’t have the antennas and converter boxes to do that.”
RICHARD MLYNAREK, Troy: “It upsets me, because I like to watch both of them. But it’s good that the stations are letting us know about it, even if it’s one-sided.”
KEN MCNERNEY, Washington Twp.: “I don’t watch much network TV, other than the news. From a news standpoint, yes.”
ASHLEIGH KINCAID, West Carrollton: “It bothers me that they can’t compromise, but I don’t have Time-Warner Cable, so it doesn’t personally affect me.”
PATRICIA MCNERNEY, Washington Twp.: “I almost think it’s a disservice to the customers if they don’t carry the local news.”

If Time Warner drops these 2 channels, then they will have to lower my cable bill. My service and channels are not contigent upon their contract problems!

I do not have cable tv, and I refuse to get it untill they go to an Ala Carte, I only want the channels I pay for , NOT 125 STUPID IDIOTIC CHANNELS I NEVER WATCH.

TW should pay these stations more and raise our cable bills by this amount.

Liberty, you have got to be kidding. The bill is high enough; way more than it should be already. This is real easy. Just carry FOX and ABC out of Cincinnati. Or add ATSC tuners to their converter boxes and let people connect antennas and drop carrying local channels altogether.

Doesn’t bother me at all. I dumped Time Warner last year for AT&T U-Verse. They’re fantastic, with one exception. Tech support is in good ol’ India, which is where I swear I shrink works part time when he’s not dispensing meds.

For those of you who think it doesn;t affect you because you get TV seervice from anotehr provider, you should realize that the SAME ISSUE will arise when the contracts that YOUR provider have in place expire. If TW loses those 2 chanels and does not LOWER my bill to compensate for losing two major network stations, I will simply switch to another provider (for the time being). I already pay for a gazillion channels I NEVER watch, so I will not pay the same amount and lose two channels that I do watch.

this is ridiculous! this happened at chaneel 2 a few yrs ago and lasted a few days. it is TW strong arming the stations to get more $ for their crappy service. In the end, TW will win and they will slip a fee in us.. i mean increase to us.

Nope, I dropped Time Warner a long time ago for Direct TV. This has never been an issue with Direct TV, but it has happened a few times with Time Warner. I’m not at all worried about the same thing happing with Direct TV.

It doesnt matter. More and more people are dropping cable service anyways because theyve realized that the cable companies are just greedy farkers. I dropped it a while back and make due just fine.

I absolutely despise TW. They are rip off artists. When i moved into my new place i was willing to do anything to set up my new system with out using them. i currently have only over air tv and plan to get netflix soon. I use U-verse for internet. My world is a much better place without TW.

I recently switched back to Time Warner from DirecTV so that we could get Dayton stations. Fortunately, I’m a fan of WDTN, so as long as they still carry that, I’m fine. It does seem rather petty that they go through this every time they renegotiate their contracts.

These two channels provide me with “the vast wasteland” that I really enjoy watching…since I am braindead. I enjoy “foof” over substantive TV…”clutter” over positive reporting of the news/facts of the day. I’ll now have to find another channel(s) that provide the “bread & circus” that I base my life and existance on. Is there a Democrat/Progressive/Socialist/Dayton Daily News operative that can guide me in the right direction to fullfill my cravings for brain dead activities on TV???? Please!!!! Help!!!! I know you have it in you to provide the propaganda needed to justify my existance!!!

What I find crimminal is that they can drop channels whenever they want without lowering your bill, but when they do drop channels they won’t let you out of your contract agreement. I think the Feds should step in and call that a contract violation and allow people to void their deals and switch providers when these type of situations arise….

What bothers me is both sides getting the public all worked up when they always settle at the last minute. Does anyone remember every losing a local channel during one of these disputes?

dropped time warner 2 years ago. we have att uverse and they have the best service — you can change your plan anytime online without having to call. we only have the local channels and pay $19/month and $15 for the dvr. i temporarily dropped down to the local only to see how much we missed the channels and guess what….we don’t miss them at all.

We dropped cable TV all together, and watch it over-the-air. Hulu and Netflix fills in the rest of it. The kids have been watching the heck out of the shows that they miss from Nickelodeon and Disney. If you’re still buying cable TV, you’ll always be subject to the axe of contract negotiations. Sure, there are contract negotiations that take place behind the scenes of Netflix, but you’ll not lose your local news channel from it.

If time warner does drop these two stations (doubtful they will do so) I will definitely cancel my time warner altogether. I watch BOTH of those channels every morning. I will switch to AT&T U-Verse, I just need something cheaper! TW is toooooooo expensive and now they may lose these two channels? Come on!

Like others, I dumped TW for uverse. Best move yet. More flexibility and reliability. Plus I dont have to deal with TW pompous attitude. What annoys me is the trailer that 22 and 45 runs constantly during their programming. It is a huge distraction. Dump Time Warner they truly suck.

Time Warner is a huge ripoff - and by the comments here, people are realizing that. Take into consideration the bombardment of mailings you get if not subscribed. Ever try to get those mailings to stop??? impossible. I will NEVER do businss with those A$$holes!! An antennae is all you need - drop them and save at least 750$ a year. Think about it.

Absolutely! Not if but when TW drops these 2 stations, we are going to DirectTV. I’m sick and tired of TW arrogance and the way TW conducts business. This is a ploy to increase cable tv prices.

I hooked up an antenna to my HDTV two years ago when TW dropped WDTN for a month. You actually get a better signal over the air than you get with cable. The sound is better too. I use TW for the true cable channels. I only have one TV that I can do that on but I watch that one 90% of the time anyway. If more people realized how easy it was, they’d do it too. I always figured the cable companies were doing the broadcast channels a favor by carrying their signal to the customers anyway.

this is one sided, dayton daily news knows, that time warner has to pay 2 and 45 for the right to send their broadcasts out on the cable line. 2 and 45’s parent company, sinclair communications, has demanded a 300% raise frome time warner in 2011. and if time warner doesn’t pay it, then sinclair communications will pull time warners rights to rebroadcast their channels. time warner makes no money from the stations, and they don’t want to drop the channels, but they are being strong armed by sinclair communications. but i guess telling the whole story would not promote such excitement.

I am going to dump TW just as soon as I have another internet option whether they resolve this dispute or not. If they spent half as much on customer service as they do on advertising maybe they wouldn’t have people leaving them in droves.

From a business standpoint, I see Time Warner’s point. Why should they pay these stations to carry them on the cable system. They are free over the air to everyone. Why should Time Warner pay them? It is a good deal for the stations to be on cable systems because it gives greater exposure. Of course, the stations could say the same thing to TW. “Your customers want local programming. Pay us or lose us.” The part I don’t like is them putting the viewer in the middle of thier dispute.

More of TW’s crap! I had Directv b4, and will go back. TW has refused to perform maintenance on their lines in my area. Now they have to put “amplifiers” on my line just to just a decent picture….which is of lesser quality than the Directv I had WITHOUT AMPLIFIERS!

TWC should, for once, NOT knuckle under to these thugs who are trying to extort more money from us. The have the guts to run a line across the bottom of the screen blaming TWC. When TWC does waffle and pay-and they WILL, our bills will go up. I do not watch either network. The solution is simply to import ABC from another city since the FCC ban on out-of-market stations should not apply since the local station is now MIA.

Folks, Traditional cable television makes about as much sense as land-line home phones & bias-ply tires. Put a directional antenna in your attic; point it toward the Moraine-area television transmitters. Then, buy a $99 Apple-TV box (or equivalent); you can then stream abundant Internet offerings through your television. Call your cable television provider; tell them…it’s been nice to know you. In the northern reaches of TWC, the cable is doing a service to local broadcasting to carry their material. If I were an advertiser on those two channels, I would be very UPSET that they are not going to be on the cable. I will miss them both, but I have cable, Internet, and phone service with TWC, so I won’t change my provider.

Time Warner is too expensive, but I have to say i have had no problem with service when someone needs to come to my house. Over the phne service is bad and you hold forever. Someone mentioned Netflix, which I do have, but their selection of instant movies and TV lieaves a lot to be desired. Most of the movies are so obsure, no one had ever heard of them. and the TV selection is terrible

WKEF and WRGT need to stop putting their viewers in the middle of this dispute. I love how ABC22’s web site says its just “two companies who cant agree on a price” when they could keep their stations on cable without blackout on their current agreement until Sinclair and TWC come to an agreement… Common sense, dont put the viewer in the middle WKEF and WRGT.
