Ohio traffic fatalities were down 9.7 percent last year, but so far this year they’re back up 10.2 percent. What do you think is going on?
ROCKY MAYES, New Lebanon: “Nobody had any money to travel last year. People are starting to get on the road again.”
SCOTT KIER, Carlisle: “Inattentive driving. You can watch a person driving normal, and then see them get a call and you can totally see their driving change. They start tailgating and weaving. I would be all for banning cell phones in a moving vehicle.”
DEBBIE BASINGER, Huber Heights: “Road construction. People are driving too fast through there.”
CRAIG TIREY, Dayton: “People just don’t pay attention to things around them. Maybe they’re paying attention to too many other things — playing with their cell phones or eating or even reading behind the wheel. It’s always terrifying when you see someone with a book propped up on the steering wheel.”
DINEE KIER, Carlisle: “Cell phones. I see all kinds of people texting while driving.”
BOB STANAFORD, Centerville: “It’s all the road construction. Where southbound 75 and Route 4 comes in, you can’t tell whether you should go left or right.”

The ecomony around the Dayton area is better! So more people are driving and the trucks for delivery is up!

Increasing the speed limit for trucks sure didn’t help. Now they are going 75 MPH.

I hope you starve & go naked! Without the trucks out there you have nothing to wear or eat!

I jacked gas to $4.50 a gallon, remember? It isn’t my fault. It was good for the oil companies and kept amerca safe.

Its the elderly folks causing the wrecks. It is insane that you get to keep your drivers license forever with no additional testing required. When you get to feeble or physically unstable to drive, they dont take away your license, they give you a sticker so you can park up front. They should require everyone who is over 70 and no longer working to retake the driving part of the exam when they get their license renewed. They make you take an eye test when you renew, why not make you prove that you can still operate a vehicle safely. Im very concerned about the rising number of people i see get out of their car and use their walker or cane to get to the store. If they cant hardly move their legs anymore just to walk, how likely are they to hit the brakes in an emergency?

The speed limit didn’t get raised to 70-mph this year, so that’s not to blame. The Patrol takes all the credit when fatalities go down; certainly they shoulder the blame when they go up this year!
