When was the last time someone in your family visited the Air Force museum?

Attendance is up 10 percent at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. When was the last time someone in your family visited the museum?

MONICA HAX, Beavercreek: “Two years ago. We had company in from out of town. We love the museum. And we need the space shuttle to go there!”

DEXTER DOUGLASS, Enon: “Probably last year. There was a ceremony for a general out there that we went to because my wife works at the base.”

KERENSA HUGHES, Dayton: “The kids and my ex went on April 30, while I was on vacation in D.C.”

GREG KOOYMAN, Kettering: “I haven’t been there is a probably three years. I went for the tattoo events.”

TRISH HARBERT, Fairborn: “In June, because my father-in-law is an Air Force vet. My in-laws and my husband went.”

JOHN BRUNER, Portsmouth, Va.: “1998. It was the year I was living here, in Mad River Twp. I live in Virginia now.”

I was in Dayton 2 years ago after not visiting for 20 years. I visited the musuem. My Grandfather flew the actual B-58 “Hustler” on display. He would take me to the museum as a child. He passed away a few years ago, so my visit was two fold. I saw Gramps plane, and said “Hi ” to him. I stood there smiling. I was remembering the smile and enthusiasm he had telling me about his “Plane”, and the smiles and enthusiasm he had about me, his Grandson.

A couple of months ago. A few years ago when we were travelling out West we overheard a man tell another traveler that he must not miss the Air Force Museum in Dayton. He said it is far superior to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. I’ve heard that echoed by others who have visited both places.

Aside from the Tattoo, I haven’t been there since the Spring. I go several times a year now that I have a decent DSLR. Even at that, some of my favorite pictures there have come from my previous point-n-shoot. I’m always trying to get people to come to the museum if they are visiting town. And the other day, there were a bunch of people on FARK commenting about how good the museum is. I still need to get back over and see the Valkyrie. I haven’t seen that since I was a kid, before the Xenia tornado.

Last year for my sons 11th Birthday, we took him and 9 friends to the museum. They loved it! We also watched an Imax movie, “Fighter Pilot”. The boys had a great time! It was actually one of the cheapest birthdays but one of funnest my kids have had!

I was there on August 9, 2010. It was the 65th anniversary of the Nagasaki bombing. Bockscar is the plane that dropped the big one and it’s on display there. That event saved many more lives than it cost. Hopefully it was significant as the last time atomic weapons will ever have to be used in actual warfare.

Great place! The Korean war exhibit was just completed. They are working on the Southeast Asia exhibit in hopes of having it done next spring in time for the River Rats reunion. The staff has worked hard at making it more than just static display of airplanes - they have brought in the people and history of the day trying to tell the whole story. The Presidential and experimental hanger is awesome and if you really want to get into it, they have tours of the restoration areas - the folks who work there are true craftsmen. Can’t say enough about what a great place it is - and its free!

Every couple of months. I absolutely love it. No matter how many times I see those exhibits, I can always find something new to learn. I like to sit and chat with some of the old timers that I see there sometimes; an eye witness account goes a lot further than any sign we can post.

I usually make it a couple times a year - I was last there in February or March. It’s always a great place to take out-of-town visitors and there’s so much in there you can’t possibly take in everything in one visit. Since I moved here 3 years ago I’ve visited roughly 10 times and I doubt I’ve read 50% of what’s printed in the museum - it’s an amazing thing we have here in Dayton!

I haven’t been there yet this year but we are an Air Force family so we visit it pretty often. My youngest, she is 7, loves to go. We usually go a few times a year. She’s been asking all summer when we’re going. We need to make it out there this coming week before school starts. She loves to read the stories there and loves the IMAX movies too. She’s been begging to go all the time since she was 4 yrs old so we go often.

I have not been there because I do not know its location or address. But it is nice to read of.

Last Oct. I try to visit once a year on my trip back to OH to visit family. Sorry to say it won’t happen this year. When we lived in Beavercreek, we usually visited at least every other month. Love the place, especially the Memorial Garden.

We were there with our kids & grandkids in July 2008 who were visiting from Utah. It had really grown since I had been there in 1986. I tink it is neat. I agree with Monica Hax about the space shuttle.

I seriously hope maxice is kidding. Or does not live in the area. Because no one in this city could be that ignorant they have to rely on a random blog entry for information on a internationally well-known museum.

One of my favorite things to look at there is the newspaper article from 100 years ago that shows the military was working on an energy projection weapon. Egad! It boggles the mind!

null missed the point. The location of this terrific museum is improperly advertised. If one sells pizza, one should advertise location and product. USAF has forgotten. Incidentally I reside 800 miles away and do not intend to drive 800 mi. to Fairborn and casually drive around hoping to luck out.
