Do you take precautions to avoid theft when you travel?
Identify-theft experts warn that vacations make us especially vulnerable to financial fraud, and tourist areas are magnets for thieves. Do you take any special precautions when traveling?
KAREN JOHNSON, Springboro: “I’m more cautious when I’m going out of the country. I wouldn’t use my credit cards there. I’m always excessively careful with my purse and other belongings.”
KELLY SHELTON, Riverside: “I use the same level of precaution that I would normally use at home, including keeping all receipts secured and not unnecessarily advertising where I’m staying or what my plans are.”
JANET COLLINS, Dayton: “I try to keep my money separate from my credit cards; I don’t carry everything together. My sister-in-law went to Myrtle Beach and had a portable DVD player stolen out of her room.”
JUDY MORRIS, Washington Twp.: “We let our credit-card company know that we’re going to be out of town.”
JACK ARTHUR, Springfield: “We usually use travelers checks. Or I put X-amount of dollars into a debit card and know that vacation is over when that’s gone. And if somebody gets into it, they’ll only get X-amount of dollars.”
JOHN CERRO, Kettering: “I carry low amounts of cash, and I limit the credit cards I carry. I keep the cards and my identification in my front pocket. And I’ve never been ripped off.”
CINDY SCHNEIDER, Bellbrook: “When you’re at an all-inclusive resort, they have safes, and we have used them.”
KEVIN PERRY, Miamisburg: “I use travelers checks only, and I’ve never had any problems.”
KEITH CHADD, Xenia: “It depends on the location. Someplace here in the States, I don’t take extra precautions, because you have protection on your credit cards, typically. But if I go abroad, I only use American Express, and I lock things up in the hotel safe and keep my ID in my front pocket.”

We go to nudist camps, so we use the room safe, and don’t really have a problem with theft from us personally when we’re out and about.

I always carry my wallet inside a front shirt pocket…and sometimes a gun, just for fun, inside and outside my car, whether going near or far. CCW training, $75 at Miami Valley Shooting Grounds, and a CCW license is priceless.

It’s interesting to see this point of view. I can’t say fore sure if I agree or not, but it is something I will think about now.
