Should the work week be reduced from 40 to 35 hours?
Would the U.S. be better off if the standard work week was reduced from 40 to 35 hours?
JOHN HARRISON, Oakwood: “Sounds like it might create more jobs. The idea seems quite European.”
ROCHELLE LLOYD, Miamisburg: “Most businesses already think the full-time work week is 32 hours. I think people would be more grateful if they just bumped the part-timers up to full-time. And if you really want to help the economy, raise the minimum wage to something more livable.”
ANDREW SIMMONS, Centerville: “I’m an athletic trainer, so I don’t have a standard work week. My days can be 10 or 12 hours long, depending on what sports are gearing up.”
LADONNA BELL, Springboro: “It would be good, as long as you got the same pay. It would give workers flexibility to go to the bank or other places that have limited hours.”
LARRY DEVILBISS, Kettering: “I don’t know if it would be good for the country. Shorter work weeks could end up cutting income and benefits for everyone.”
STEPHANIE PITCOCK, Waldorf, Mass.: “Yes. We’d have more time at home with our families and kids. And it’s five less hours of work a week! But mainly it would be good for the kids.”

Is this question for the workplace or the home? Add ‘em up and do the the math unless you’re a product of DPS which we’ll grade on a curve to inflate the dubious standards of ODE….

I’m glad you asked a lot of liberals this question. Why don’t we just work one day a week and have all the wealthy folks in the world pay so everyone can sit around and go to the grocery and run all they errands and go to the bank etc….Oh wait, we wouldn’t need any banks. This is silly. Andrew-at least you know how to work, congratulations….the more you work, the more money you make. If you don’t want the money, don’t work. Pretty simple.

Republicans used to say, “The harder you work, the more money you make.” Now they are saying, “The more you work, the more money you make.” Obviously, if a person works more hours, they are going to make more money than if they worked fewer hours. But over the past 30 years, productivity has skyrocketed, while wages have stayed put or went down. Republicans like it this way, where people work harder for less, so that CEOs and shareholders can make more, to create capital allowing them to ship jobs overseas.
