Nearly 80 percent of Americans in a recent poll said they don’t trust the federal government. Why do you think that is?

JASON SHIELDS

JASON SHIELDS, Miamisburg: “I think a good percentage of Americans don’t trust the government. It’s like when the health care thing got passed with a big majority of Americans saying they didn’t want it. The government’s going to do what it wants, no matter what we want.”

ddnchatMaxMeyer.JPG
MAX MEYER

MAX MEYER, Beavercreek: “I have no idea. They should trust it. We’re fortunate enough to live in a country that has a federal government that we can count on. It’s a privilege to live in a country where you’re able to pay taxes, because we’re free.”

ddnchatEdithWebb.JPG
EDITH WEBB

EDITH WEBB, Xenia: “Trust is a big issue. A lot of times when someone asks for your trust, you find out later they didn’t do what they said they would do. It’s true with anybody, including the government.”

ddnchatJulieRovet.JPG
JULIE ROVET

JULIE ROVET, Dayton: “It’s because they say one thing and do another.”

ddnchatMelanieCook.JPG
MELANIE COOK

MELANIE COOK, Fairborn: “I think it’s because (President) Obama didn’t follow through with his promises to make discussions public, and people don’t feel like they know what’s going on.”

Very simple: government hasn’t changed. Talk radio has. Hannity, Limbaugh and Beck get rich from attacking the government. We need a balance between what they say and the truth. Too many Americans get their information soley from these shows and neveer bother to check the facts.

Ever try to get government benefits for someone or yourself. Its a nightmare.People can’t get benefits that are owed to them because of the red tape involved.I’m surprised people were against some of the SS being privatized ..oh well their mistake.

You are right Sarge, the left cant stand another point of view contrary to their standard BS. If there is dessent, the left demonizes them. The left has controlled the media for decades, but when there is a dissenting voice, boy they lose it.

Only the gov. can use deadly force(legally) to accomplish it’s means, which is to steal others people’s money, and give it to people who don’t earn it, to vote them in power. This is what democrats(communist) do, and you wonder why people don’t trust the gov.—please—-

I think many people don’t trust the Government because they’ve be misled and lied to. Particularly, about the health care issue. And then, they don’t bother to find out the facts for themselves.

Why don’t you read the founding fathers and find out why they didn’t trust the government. Perhaps that will give you some insight into why they believed in smaller gvmt, freedom and liberty.

Duh…two parties of true belivers and bottom feeders, reliable Republicuns and dependable Dimicrats and their PAC rats, catering to and colluding and conspiring with The Pentagon and The Welfare State, expansion of government and our empire overseas, exporting good jobs while importing cheap labor and motor voters, fictional fantasy budget forecasts by government folks who will never get fired or go broke, making us sick by tricking the hicks?

FYI, Personally not aligned with either party. Not a lot of trust in most of the lopsided nonsense they put out, but it’s vital that we all do our own research on the issues. Health care is a prime example - a lot of lies and mistruths being told. It needed to be addressed - years ago - and at least we have a start on some changes. The talk radio guys have enven said - in the air- that there goal is to same the things, true or not, just to change the party in office, because when something is said enough most people will believe it - true or not. That’s what they hang their hats on, and their wallets. Just read a bill or something before you take some guys vitriolic word for it automatically. You all have a good day. And actually I’m more conservative than anything. The Dem’s are to liberal with their spending. They always have to try to make some progress on thse issues the Repub’s always ignore for too long.

Don’t trust the Govt?? Well let’s see we have Rush L. and Fox news bashing it 7 days a week 24 hours a day. But isn’t it the Govt which builds & inspect our bridges, protects our drinking water, protects us with police/firefighters, provides a 9-1-1 phone number for emergency. Maybe, a stronger Govt and NOT a weaker one would have DEMANDED big oil to build BETTER shut valves on their oil pipes, protect IT’S CITIZENS from Wall Street misconduct.

Gee Mort - I haven’t heard the cause of the oil spill as being determined yet. I guess no one really knows the reason for the oil spill in the Gulf but you. As for Wall Street, many of those who caused the problem are now working for this administration. Face it Mort - your real gripe is you just hate the free market and absolutely love and trust government. Well so did Stalin and Mao.

I don’t trust polls. Big government is only bad when you are not in charge. And please stop crying ‘socialism’ or (gasp!) ‘communism’ in regards to democrats. If we had real socialism, believe me, you would know it. If we had communism, we wouldn’t even be discussing it, so please stop being theatrical and wailing like insulted virgins because your favorite is no longer in office. Obama won’t get my vote, but you can blame the GOP for his term of office.

obama made it clear during his campaign that he would spread the wealth around. his idea of spreading the wealth is to take from those who work for their money and give it to those who chose not to work. he is bowing to foreign govts, he has filled positions with “czars”, he is working to weaken america in any way possible. those in govt are sheep following along to protect themselves and not serve those who voted for them. when the going gets tough they just jump party lines or become independent to split votes. what or who is there to trust in washington?
