Is President Obama right to shift NASA’s focus from a return to the moon to an expedition to Mars?
President Obama plans to end NASA programs aimed at returning astronauts to the moon. He favors sending them to explore an asteroid and, later, Mars. Do you favor that shift in direction?
KENYA HARRIS, Harrison Twp.: “No, I think they should keep them going straight up to the moon.”
JUDITH HOSKINS, Huber Heights: “We’ve been to the moon, so why not Mars? Hopefully, they’ll still have all their jobs at NASA. Progress is important, even in a stalled economy.”
RICK BLANKE, Xenia: “No, just because there’s plenty of other places the money could go instead of the space program.”
JERRY MITCHELL, Spring Valley Twp.: “To an asteroid? I don’t know. I’m just happy the program hasn’t been canceled altogether. It’s important to keep it going. They should send (astronauts) someplace — probably to Mars.”
CAROL MORRISON, Huber Heights: “I’d say to do something else. A lot of it’s a waste of money. What are we going to do up there? If the world comes to an end, we’re not going to get up there in time to stop it.”
