What’s the best Christmas movie ever?

What’s the best Christmas movie ever?

ddnchatDanChambers.JPG
DAN CHAMBERS

DAN CHAMBERS, Miamisburg: “ ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ with Jimmy Stewart. It just embodies what Christmas is all about.”

ddnchatAndreaRieger.JPG
ANDREA RIEGER

ANDREA RIEGER, Centerville: “ ‘Christmas Vacation,’ definitely. It reminds me of the chaos and fun of family and the holidays.”

ddnchatMaryBethFirestone.JPG
MARY BETH FIRESTONE

MARY BETH FIRESTONE, Monroe: “Mine is ‘Polar Express.’ It’s the true spirit of Christmas. You’ve got to believe — as an adult, you must believe.”

ddnchatCharlesMatney.JPG
CHARLES MATNEY

CHARLES MATNEY, Concord Twp., Miami County: “ ‘White Christmas.’ It has top actors like Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney.”

ddnchatCarolSalyers.JPG
CAROL SALYERS

CAROL SALYERS, Trenton: “ ‘Christmas Vacation.’ I’m not your typical, mushy Christmas person. But everybody can relate to someone in that movie. You know everyone has one of those characters in their families.”

ddnchatJoeRoss.JPG
JOE ROSS

JOE ROSS, Cincinnati: “ ‘A Christmas Story.’ I love that movie. I like it when Santa kicks him down the slide, and when he shoots himself in the eye.”

ddnchatAprilNewell.JPG
APRIL NEWELL

APRIL NEWELL, Springboro: “My favorite is ‘The Nutcracker,’ but it’s not really a movie; it’s a show.”

ddnchatRyanStroud.JPG
RYAN STROUD

RYAN STROUD, Cincinnati: “ ‘Jingle All the Way.’ It’s just an all-around fun film. It has an antagonist, of course, but in the end he becomes the protagonist — Sinbad, of all people. And it shows Arnold (Schwarzenegger) has a humorous side.”

ddnchatJamieWyse.JPG
JAMIE WYSE

JAMIE WYSE, Butler Twp.: I’d have to say ‘A Christmas Story,’ because it’s funny to watch now, because it took place in the 1940s.”

ddnchatAnnDaniel.JPG
ANN DANIEL

ANN DANIEL, Clearcreek Twp., Warren County: “ ‘Scrooge’ — the original one. It’s just traditional.”

ddnchatLaToyaGrier.JPG
LATOYA GRIER

LATOYA GRIER, Dayton: “ ‘The Grinch Who Stole Christmas’ (the Jim Carrey one), because he was a mean man who finally learned the value of Christmas.”

How do you know everyone has a favorite Christmas movie? What about the people who don’t celebrate Christmas?

By Joey

“A Christmas movie is a true classic and the greatest christmas movie of all time, hands down… those who do think that are totally right! But Home Alone 1 and 2 are probably on the top 5 or 10 with “Jingle all the way” or “Elf”, there all very questionable.

Don’t even consider myself a Christian, but I notice that those who get all bent over Christian displays have no problem taking the day off. If you’re so set against a Christian holiday, why not go to work?

Love Actually has become a tradition for my husband and I. It is so inspiring. For those who have not seen it, please don’t share it with the kids, it is not appropriate for them. I recommend it for adults though.

The article says “everyone has a favorite Christmas movie”. I’m simply stating that not everyone does. Or can you not read? It’s an open forum as well, it doesn’t say you have to celebrate Christmas to comment.

Pat, I’m not a Christian and I don’t celebrate Christmas per se, but I still have a favorite movie that is set during the Christmas season - Love, Actually. But I notice that you haven’t suggested any non-Christian alternatives that are fitting with Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Solstice or Yule. Please enlighten us?

Oh - and… for all of us who are mentioning Love, Actually… does any one else still cry every time they watch it, or am I just a girly-girl on this one? LOL

ELF!!! “I’m singing! I’m in a store and I’m singing!” Love it! And for those who always want to ruin it for everyone else and bring a negative side to things like “I don’t celebrate Christmas,” leave the rest of us who love Christmas and want to have some fun alone.

This is a Christmas movie article, if you don’t celebrate Christmas then why take the time to read the article and complain about not celebrating or not having a favorite movie. Get a life and quit searching for something that offends you. If you don’t like it, don’t read it. Sorry if my name offends you too. BTW…Christmas Vacation is the best, I swear I am related to a cousin Eddie.

I’m don’t celebrate Christmas, as I am non-Christian. I very much enjoy Christmas lights, fully respect people’s rights to celebrate their holidays (my experiences are pretty much all mutual feelings in that respect) and can watch A Christmas Story over and over again and still laugh. Even visited the house in Cleveland this past summer.

As far as the Classics go, I would say the original Miracle on 34th Street is the best. My favorite, altough it is geared towards adults is Bad Santa and for family fun Christmas Vacation is a must watch.

My favorite is “It’s a Wonderful Life” and then I have to watch “A Christmas Story”—love it when the dog eats the turkey, the kid gets kicked in the face by Santa, and the toy gun. Great movies!

To “by Pat this”—if you don’t have a favorite Christmas movie, then skip the comment. That’s easy. Why does it bother people in minority when someone in majority expresses their opinions? How come we aren’t all free to express our opinions, instead of trying to keep people from having that right. What is it about freedom that people don’t understand?

There are so many…I think Christmas Vacation is probably the funniest and my fav: “Squirrel!” We also watch annually “It’s a Wonderful Life”, “A Christmas Carol” (George C. Scott) and “One Magic Christmas” (Mary Steenburgen). “Holiday” (Cameron Diaz) is good, too.

No one has mentioned my all time favorite. Holiday Inn…Bing Crosby singing and Fred Astaire dancing with lots of comedy thrown in. What more could you ask for?

Are yu sure about that, Jimmy Stewart? I thought buying jewelry as the only way to express your love is the reason for Christmas. Ask Jared, Zales, Osterman, etc, etc. etc.

I’m a traditional kind of guy. I do like some of the movies mentioned, but if I really want to get into the spirit, I have to watch The Nativity Story and Scrooge with Albert Finney. That is the only acceptable version of that story in my house.

It never feels like Christmas till I see “White Christmas”! BUT to get into the spirit of giving and the meaning of the holiday, you must see “It’s A Wonderful Life” and “A Christmas Carol” (OLD black & white version)

Fred Claus isn’t bad either for the humor side of Christmas, but Christmas Story is hard to beat. But then again, Jimmy has a point about Die Hard. Looks like everyone has Pat figured out. Merry Christmas.

Has to be “It’s a Wonderful Life.” You just have to love Jimmie Stewart! My brother, however, is dead set on Die Hard being his favorite Christmas movie… (he always was a little messed up in the head)

Why can’t the non-majority respond? I love Christmas. I simply stated that not everyone has a favorite Christmas movie, b/c not everyone celebrates Christmas. If I don’t agree, then I shouldn’t respond? Who put you in charge? Nobody. It’s a public message board, I can comment how I choose. Ash, the question was what’s your favorite Christmas movie? Why would I respond with a movie about non-Christmas? Squirrley Idiot, your question is faulty. You’re criticizing me for commenting, then say we should all have the right. Which is it?

Qualifications proves that sentiment incorrect. For your most element, men and women have established on their very own to be selfish, self-centered, and ruthless to others. The pervading paradigm of human track record is one driven by survival. When you have what I (or my tribe) want and need, we’ll think about it from you. We’ll take into account your land, your livestock, your gold, your ladies, your lives. The Vikings, the Goths, the Romans, you title it, all thought only of on their own, and also to hell with anyone else (except if needless to say they could be of help).
