Does it matter to you whether people call it a “Christmas” tree or a “holiday” tree?

ANDY ROSSI

ANDY ROSSI, Dayton: “Not especially. I just don’t really see it as a controversy. If someone’s involved with Christmas, they’ll call it that. If they’re not involved with it, they’ll use the generic name. It’s not really a problem.”

LINDA COFFMAN

LINDA COFFMAN, West Carrollton: “It does to me. I don’t understand why everyone wants to take away from Christmas. ‘Merry Christmas’ has to be ‘Happy Holidays.’ I think it should be ‘Merry Christmas,’ just like it used to be.”

JACKIE GREENE

JACKIE GREENE, Dayton: “I’ve never thought about it. It’s all to celebrate Jesus’ birthday. The Christmas tree is a symbol of Jesus’ birthday, and he gave us the gift of life. It’s a holiday because family is able to get together for fellowship. What they call the tree doesn’t matter.”

SHANNON SEWARD

SHANNON SEWARD, Beavercreek: “I understand why we have to use the term “holiday,” but the reason for the season is Christmas.”

ddnchatDarrellAbney.JPG
DARRELL ABNEY

DARRELL ABNEY, Riverside: “It’s kind of offensive. It’s a Christmas tree. It’s like they’re trying to change something that doesn’t need changed.”

STACY MILLER

STACY MILLER, Dayton: “Not usually. It is a Christian holiday in America. I would care less, but I want to be respectful of others.”

JAMIE ERICKSON

JAMIE ERICKSON, Fairborn: “I prefer Christmas tree. I’m just used to it.”

Yes it does, it should be a Christmas tree, traditionally speaking. Or if you prefer, you can get a pole and celebrate Festivus!

If this kind of thing is what someone worries about - they need to get a life. There are a lot more important things than whether its called a christmas tree or holiday tree.. geesh…

The days as they were established by this country were called Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Even though for mysake as a born again believer I don’t think Christ should be taken out of Christmas to every one that lives in this country the way it was established is the way it should remain! USA is a great country and allows for alot of Freedoms what I don’t understand is why people come here or stay here and want to take and change what made USA the USA! Our freedom gave us a Christmas Season so leave it as a Christmas Season.

We don’t call a menorah a “holiday candles”, so the tree should not be called a “holiday tree”.The tree is associated with Christmas, so it should be called a Christmas Tree - even if you do not celebrate that particular belief in your life, respect those who do.

YES! It is and always will be, despite the PC, the Christmas holiday. If the Moozlums don’t like it or want to try it, they can shut up or go away.

Call it whatever you want and put up your pagan tree on the holiday of the winter solstice. The birth of Jesus has nothing (!) to do with these traditions. And please respect (the growing number of)those who do not share your beliefs as well. Happy Solstice, y’all.

In this country it has always been called a Christmas Tree. I am a Buddhist and I call it a Christmas tree. It has never been a holiday tree and that is more PC garbage to call it such. It is our country. Don’t like how we do things, go back to your own. Other countries do not bend over backward to immigrants.
