It’s Middfest week! What do you think?

It’s Middfest week in Middletown, one of my busiest times of the year. Today I’m writing about sort of a play based on The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, and then later this week, I’ll talk to Basil Mills, who is on his third trip here, if memory serves. Per usual, he will be helping out with wild animals and such, since the featured country is an African nation - Botswana. My colleague Justin McClelland wrote a preview based on Sunday’s events,

So what do you think of this year’s showcase? Are you planning on going? What do you usually do at Middfest?

i think i’ll skip midfest this year. animal planet, nat geo and the discovery channel will teach me all I want to know about Botswana. my cousin, vinnie vulture, says that its not really that happy a place. the food’s not that great either, but hey, that’s just his opinion. some of the hyenas find it pretty tasty so most of the local scavengers might like it.

We won’t be going to Middfest. We only go to festivals that are free. We’re not interested at all in looking at elementary kids’ artwork, kiosks selling kitschy junk that has nothing to do with the theme country, or food booths selling Domino’s pizza and kettle corn. I know they work hard on it, but paying to get into a festival where they expect you to spend more money is ridiculous.
