First community office hours on May 10
On Tuesday, May 10, I will hold my first Community Office Hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hamilton Lane Library, 300 N. Third St.
I will work remotely out in the community — monthly to start — where people can come up and talk with me about recent news in the paper or story ideas they may have. My next location will likely be either around the Middletown or Oxford area. Know of any good spots?
I understand this is in the middle of the work day, but there’s always the traditional approaches to reach me: by phone at (513) 820-2175 or email at mpitman@coxohio.com.
Please note, the office hours will be at WiFi locations for now. If you have one in mind, let me know and I’ll put it on my list. For quick access, I’ve created a new blog posting category called Community Office Hours.

TweetA third seeks GOP state senate recommendation
Michael Shawn McCabe announced on Sunday his intent to seek the Butler County Republican Party Central Committee’s recommendation to replace Sen. Gary Cates, R-West Chester Twp., who is leaving to take a job on the Ohio Board of Regents.
From McCabe: “I have over 10 years in financial services, 15 years in developing small businesses who employ residents of the 4th District … and I only have five years experience in Butler County politics. I’ll go with my real experience and get busy protecting the tax dollars, wages and opportunities for working families across the Great State of Ohio. Let’s turn a focus toward jobs and growth and get rid of red tape, pointing blame and roadblocks to prosperity.”
McCabe is the third to seek the county GOP’s recommendation. The Ohio Senate Republicans will appoint the successor to Cates, who starts his new job on May 23. The Butler County GOP’s recommendation vote will be on May 18.
