Culvert work to affect Miami’s commencement

OXFORD TWP. — The Butler County Engineer’s Office is reporting the Bonham Road culvert replacements are behind schedule due to inclement weather. The recent persistent heavy rains, subsequent high water and saturated ground conditions have prevented crews from working.

The first two culvert replacements are complete, according to the BCEO. However, the third is under construction and unable to be completed until weather conditions improve. Crews will move to the fourth culvert upon completion of the third.

Because of the weather delays with the third culvert repairs, the Miami University commencement will be affected, according to the BCEO. Bonham Road will not be reopened this weekend for Miami University’s commencement ceremonies.

Any traffic intending to use Bonham Road into or out of Oxford will be required to follow the posted detour. Special signs targeted specifically for inbound commencement traffic will be posted on Ohio 73 and Oxford Milford Road.

Located between Hillcrest Drive and Oxford Milford Road, all four culverts on Bonham Road and their revised status are as follows:

• First culvert - Located 350 feet east of Hillcrest Drive and 0.9 mile west of Oxford Milford Road. COMPLETE.

• Second culvert - Located 0.2 mile east of Hillcrest Drive and 0.8 mile west of Oxford Milford Road. COMPLETE.

• Third culvert - Located 0.7 mile east of Hillcrest Drive and 0.3 mile west of Oxford Milford Road. Closed: April 8, 2011. Approximate opening date: week of May 16.

• Fourth culvert - Located 0.8 mile east of Hillcrest Drive and 0.2 mile west of Oxford Milford Road. Approximate closing date: week of May 16, 2011. Approximate opening date: week of May 30.

Detour for all four culvert replacements: Eastbound Bonham Road will travel west on Sycamore Street in Oxford, north on Ohio 732 into Oxford Twp. , northeast on Somerville Road and south on Oxford Milford Road. Westbound traffic will reverse this route.
