Barkley to OSU crowd: “Bring it on”

In case you haven’t heard, USC quarterback Matt Barkley was in high school last year. He’s a true freshman starting for the Trojans, who will visit Ohio Stadium on Saturday in the one of the premier non-conference college football games this season.

Many Ohio State fans have placed some confidence in the game because of Barkley’s inexperience, especially considering Ohio Stadium holds one of the largest crowd’s in college football.

Barkley, apparently, isn’t as concerned, according to the Los Angeles Times:

“Bring it on,” Barkley said after practice. “I’ll imagine they’re all cheering for us.”

Cockiness, maybe? Or just confidence? Or fake confidence? We’ll see on Saturday.

But inexperience isn’t as much of an issue. Barkley has earned so much attention, praise and microscope treatment, he’s not exactly you’re fresh-from-high-school player. He’s even ahead of where Terrelle Pryor was last year at USC, because he graduated from high school early to attend USC spring practices. Pryor did not.

Barkley has his own Web site. He was his high school team’s starting quarterback for four years, and even as a freshman he passed for 1,685 yards and 10 touchdowns.

He did, however, throw 18 interceptions as a high school senior, which is a surprising statistic. Granted, he also completed 54.5 percent of his passes for 2,877 yards and 23 touchdowns, but he nearly matched those TD passes with interceptions.

To me, Ohio State fans should feel most optimistic about that stat.

Still, to help Barkley along, the Trojans practiced with added crowd noise on Tuesday. Afterward, he told reporters he was ready for the noise.

“It will be a little louder,” he said, “but I’ve got a loud voice.”

It’ll be nice when this guy’s name stops being “True Freshman Matt Barkley” and he just fades into the background as another surfer dude cocky jerk from Southern Cal. If he doesn’t crash and burn in the next 18 months, I’ll eat my hat.

OSU will have a long day this weekend when USC spanks them for four quarters. Overanked Buckeyes as always.

Barkley will get his comeuppance as most USC QBS do when they lose to Oregon or Stanford or Cal. After last saturday’s game, I don’t see OSU fairing too well against the Trojans. nyc has never won a thing, btw.

I agree it will be a tough game for OSU but USC will be paying on the road so you bnever know what can happen. The OSU fans have nothing to be ashamed of seeing OSU has one of the best records in college football. To be honest if OSU wins great but if they lose so what, there are way more imprtant things in life than football. Half the football player take steriods so I am half way considering giving up watching college or NFL since the leagues do not enforce their rules. The NFL doesn’t have any ethics and you can kill someone and the league will still let that person play.

I smell a fight on the field. Regardless, boastfulness never really works out well for the person running their mouth.

Matt Barkley is a moron how can you even pretend that 107,000 buckeyes fans are chanting your name that is probably the dumbest thing a freshmen could say. I really hope Kurt Coleman decapitates him because someone needs too.

Matt Barkley isn’t a moron, our fans were chanting his name-we certainly don’t have a qtrbk we can get behind. I’ve put posts about what a disgrace T. Pryor is-the eye-black , Mike Vick incident! it should’ve gotten him at least benched. But Coach Tressel never pays attention to bad behavior so Pryor played but badly in the USC game. some tv comments were that he panicked a couple times & threw badly. HE’s 6’6” 300+# but was afraid to get hit? Plus everyone brags about what a good scrambler he is for his size. Now we know he’s a low- character no-talent . I said in a prev. post that we see poor character eventually results in poor athletic performance. If one doesn’t have the backbone that character gives, it’s impossible to remain at top level performance. Wake-up Coach Tressel!
