Buckeyes picked to win Big Ten
College football season is here. The Big Ten is holding its media days in Chicago today and Tuesday and the first round of preseason awards are in. The media members attending vote. For starters:
• Ohio State is the pick to win its fifth straight Big Ten title. Penn State was tabbed to finish second. The Buckeyes and Nittany Lions both finished 7-1 in conference play last year. Michigan State is pick for third.
That’s as much as they release, probably so Indiana doesn’t feel bad about being picked last every year. I always thought that was odd; they don’t worry about hurting people’s feelings in the Southeastern Conference.
• OSU quarterback Terrelle Pryor is the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.
• Michigan State linebacker Greg Jones is the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Spartans return eight starters on defense.
Indiana will be the first Big Ten season in action this year when the Hoosiers host Eastern Kentucky on Thursday, Sept. 3. The conference’s other 10 teams kick off on Saturday, Sept. 5.
