President Stephen Colbert?!
Well, for those of you wishing that another candidate would enter the race for the presidential nomination: be careful what you wish for-the comedian Stephen Colbert is considering entering the GOP’s South Carolina primary. Here’s more from the Washington Post:
“Comedian Stephen Colbert, emboldened by a recent poll that showed him ahead of Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman Jr., announced yesterday on his late-night television show that he will explore running for “president of the United States of South Carolina.”
Colbert, 47, grew up in South Carolina, which holds the next presidential primary on Jan. 21. Projecting the conservative persona he uses on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report,” he said he sees himself as the “Mitt-ternative” — a reference to front-runner Mitt Romney — and decided to form “an exploratory committee to lay the groundwork for my possible candidacy.”

Irish, I’m not implying anything about Mitt. He is 100 times richer (at least) than our president. Mitt comes from money. Our president does not. Mitt could have probably lived off of his inheritance. He hasn’t. If we believe Newt (or, at least the Super PAC that promotes Newt), Mitt has done some objectionable things in his business dealings. But that’s Newt (or that Super PAC), desperately trying to slow down Mitt in this GOP nominating race. So I’m implying nothing about Mitt. Mr. Obama earned his 2 million. Did Mitt earn his 250 mill?? I suppose he did…

Vick, are you implying Mr Romney didn’t earn his fortune? Seems as if there’s quite a bit of money to earned in private equity. It doesn’t hurt to have an Ivy League MBA either.

You described our President, Barack Obama as a “rich clown.” It is true that Mr. Obama recently became a millionaire-he has earned a couple of million dollars through the sales of his books (operative word: earned) - according to the NY Times (and numerous other sources) Mitt Romney, the likely GOP nominee, has over 250 million dollars (at least) - 100+ times the wealth of Mr. Obama. And Mitt is the only candidate who won’t release his tax returns.

I remember comedian Pat Paulsen always running for president.. He actually finished second in New Hampshire in 1992. Presidential slogan: “If elected, I will win.”

LOL, if he has any money he’ll finish ahead of Huntsman. Only the media and Democrats (is that redundant?) like Mr Huntsman for the job.

Well, at least a comedian who fancies himself as a politician. Better that than a politician who thinks, acts and espouses comedic views. Hell, he couldn’t be any worse than the current crop of morons.

Colbert’s entire exploration of our governmental workings from forming a PAC, transforming to a Super PAC, transferring the running of the Super PAC to Jon Stewart so he could form his exploratory committee has been an education and entertainment. South Carolina will not allow write-in votes in the primary, so it will be interesting to see where he goes from here. Pat Paulsen didn’t make running for president this enlightening. Thanks for the heads-up on the e-book.
