Wal-Mart won’t touch this red hot book…

One of the hottest selling books of the summer will be published next week-“Go the __ to Sleep” by Adam Mansbach. According to the New York Times:

“…the book has a clearly identified reader demographic — parents of young children — some of the stores whose shoppers fit that profile have refused to carry it. Wal-Mart, for instance, has declined to sell the book.”

The book has been one of the top-sellers on Amazon.com for weeks. Here’s more from the article:

“A strategically placed moon on the cover obscures part of the offending four-letter word in the title, which seemed to satisfy many booksellers.” Apparently, the book is a bit too much for Wal-Mart. They won’t be carrying it. To read the rest of the article click HERE:

Wal-Mart’s loss, Amazon’s gain. This only creates more buzz for the book, which will increase overall sales. Ironic. This sort of thing happens all the time, nororiously when uptight citizens of many stripes wish to boycott something.

The ironic thing is that Walmart has no qualms at all about carrying the book “Sh*t My Dad Says”. And it is listed as one of their top sellers in 2010. Not to mention the plethora of hate screeds and right wing blather from the likes of Glenn Beck and Michael Savage. Certainly find nothing offensive to a large segment of the population in those, right? You can’t walk through the book section of any Walmart in the country without being confronted with these piled en-masse right on the main aisle. And of course, any book that has even a hint of religious tone can get placed prominently on the shelves of Walmart. Even something from the likes of radical preacher John Hagee get placed in Walmart. I’ll give them one thing, their not shy about their hypocrisy.

I’m a librarian and the father of an 18 month-old little boy. This book is a win on so many different levels. Can’t wait!

As the parent of twin 3 year old girls, I can totally relate. One night after telling my kids to get in bed for the 500th time I said to my self, “you guys don’t listen to anything I say.” One of my daughters turned to me and said, “yeah it’s like talking to the birds Papa.”
