President Rick Santorum?!

41GNZQRNEML._SL500_AA300_.jpg
and another one

Another Republican presidential aspirant has lobbed his sombrero into the race for his party’s nomination. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania recently declared his intentions. I hope he has a new book coming out soon ~ it has been 5 years since he published “It Takes a Family: Conservatism and the Common Good”.

Raoul, no you don’t call anyone names. You just say Ann Coulter’s your favorite author in the world. Her books are literally page after page after page of lies, namecalling and direct provocation. She’s at the vanguard of the movement to make “liberal” a dirty word. When you remove the invective, lies and propaganda from her books, all you’re left with is the binding (and not even the book jacket). My point is not to criticize Republicans for being Republicans, but to criticize Republicans for having become Southern Democrats. I honor the roots and history of the Republican party, while you worship those who have destroyed that legacy and replaced it with disproven demagoguery.

I don’t call Obama names. It’s you who calls Republicans racist and I will not stand for that. Some Republicans are racists. Some Democrats are too. I am not. The left is attempting to label Republicans and Tea Party supporters as racist. Those of us that see through those things should not remain silent. Opposing the new health care legislation, Obama, and the Democrat agenda does not make one a racist, but there is a massive attempt to make that connection. So, why can’t I make the exact same connection by labeling those that oppose Sarah Palin as sexist, chauvinist pigs. It makes the same amount of sense. Has it ever occurred to you that feminists are profoundly sexist? That is what is so interesting about Sarah Palin; she has all the qualities of a liberated woman, with none of the ‘feminist’ trappings.

Raoul, you can call me anything you like, but you should probably know that I worked 1,000 hours pro bono for Roxanne Conlin’s 1982 Iowa gubernatorial campaign. Roxanne was a former U.S. Attorney and a close ally of Gloria Steinem’s from back in the ’60s. Whatever. I call out the Republicans for being Southern Democrat racists, and you take offense. I don’t say these things to offend you personally, so why do you insist on being personally offended? When you call Obama names I don’t take personal offense because I’m not Obama. Unless you’re living in the Deep South and voting straight ticket Republican, I don’t see why my words offend you.

Mark, let’s make a deal. As long as you get to call Republicans racist, and cling to the whole “Southern Strategy” myth, which Ann Coulter has once again demonstrated to be nothing more than a myth in her new book, which you will of course officially discredit (you are always announcing that certain people have been discredited without ever really demonstrating how)I will reserve for myself the right to call you a sexist, chauvinist pig for opposing Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann, and I promise to post such whenever you bring up racism and the “Southern Strategy” again. I will call it the new progressive “Sexist Strategy”. If that doesn’t make sense to you, well then GOTCHA! Neither does labeling the Tea Party or Republicans racist, for the same reasons.

I believe Obama has damaged our country in every way. Obama’s cohorts have every shady character you can think of, from black panthers to police bombing Bill Ayers to the questionable prejudiced and anti-American Rev Wright. Chances are good that we will have a Republican president because our current unemployment rate of 9.1% is hard for him to argue that his policies are “working”—except I do believe that killing our Republic was exactly what Obama intended to do. I don’t think he “accidentally” sent billions to Brazil for drilling or millions to other countries for jobs. I don’t think it was an accident that Obama traveled the world bowing to our enemies, nor an accident that he put Israel under the bus when he directed them to give up the land they fought for back in the 1960’s. I don’t think it was an accident that Obama had the FED monetize our debt where our dollar has now lost its value and takes more of them to purchase oil, gas, food, etc. I think anyone would do a better job than Obama in saving our country. But if your agenda is overthrowing our capitalistic Republic, than yes, Obama’s your man.

Once again, Raoul, Irishguy and Squirrellygirl have proven they are the most rational, reasonable and intellectually thoughtful contributers to this blog. Their fairminded analysis is spot on. Obama is responsible for every problem the country faces. Liberals have destroyed the country, sent our troops to unecessary wars, looted the treasury, sent our jobs overseas, created the massive debt, poisoned our environment and are just the worst people ever. Good conservatives like these three will truly save us. Uh, Squirrelly, you really meant anybody but Obama, right? How about Raoul? Or maybe you’re the answer.

I would vote for anyone running against Obama. I don’t know enough about this candidate to say whether or not he is my first pick. I do like Herman Cain and hope he picks up some momentum. But I repeat, I will vote for ANYBODY running against Obama. And if you care about our Republic still existing, you should, too.

IG, my point is that if you kicked all the former Democrats out of the Republican party, you wouldn’t have nearly as many racists but because they’ve transformed the GOP into the Dixiecrat party, you now have Rush and Glenn as well (google their names with the word “racist” and you’ll find an enormous pile of proof of their personal misogyny and racism). If there has been voter fraud, where are the convictions? Aside from felons still on probation illegally voting (and I’d argue they should only be disenfranchised while in a cell, all other disenfranchisement laws being left over from Jim Crow), there is virtually no illegal voting in this country. There is a HUGE problem with electronic voting machines that are easily reprogrammed and whose memories are wiped after each election, but the Republicans NEVER talk about that. Ever. Again, I grew up Republican. I left when Nixon took in the Southern Democrats, the single most corrosive, dishonest and unAmerican political movement in the history of this country. For the life of me, I don’t know why real conservatives don’t throw them out on their ear. They’ve held Congress and the presidency in recent years but never lowered taxes for real Americans (a rate here or there, but that was always quickly taken back by local government hikes to make up for federal and state money that disappeared), and they’ve never implemented any of their socially conservative agenda in a way that passes even a Republican judge’s muster. Yet they’ve successfully deregulated Wall Street to within an inch of the middle class’s life. Stop listening to what they say (which is always exactly what you want to hear) and start paying attention to what they do (which is always something else entirely). If I always sound angry, it’s because the Dems don’t deliver and the Republicans never even try and between them both things just keep getting worse for everyone who’s not already rich.

I’ll give you Duke, the former Repub is the Byrd of the party. The macaca bit is a text book example of media bias, the washington post did a hundred stories on that made up word to swing the election to Webb. A commercial that mentioned Mr Ford visiting the Playboy Mansion and showed a girl, who happened to be white, using the universal phone hand gesture while mouthing “call me” can only be called racist by some who sees race everywhere. I’m sure you’re convinced the “Magic Negro” bit on Mr Limbaugh’s show is proof. When in fact it was the title of a story written by a black liberal, David Ehrenstein in the LA Times. It only “magically” become racist when Mr L utters the phrase. I rarely hear Mr Limbaugh or Mr Beck, so I’m not sure what other instances you may believe are racist. Just because there was no voter fraud in Fla in 2000, doesn’t mean there haven’t been attempts in other elections.

Raoul, we apparently wrote our comments at the same time. The truth is I am very stubborn and should just give up. Your side won a long time ago. The fact that Obama is seen as a socialist proves this country has moved so far to the right that the center now looks socialist to a lot of people. I must annoy the heck out of you with my godless ways and desire to tax inherited wealth. Funny, I grew up thinking I was embracing American values (in the 19th Century people paid money to see atheists lecture), but you’ve done a lot to re-educate me, helping me to realize that this isn’t my country anymore, and it probably never will be ever again. Enjoy living in the most belligerent, warmongering nation on earth, one in which labor is despised, equality is a myth, and no one gets on TV talk shows unless they’ve got a masters degree in lying. And let’s see how long this phony baloney Wall Street economy can keep making money by sending American jobs overseas while squandering oil and other natural resources. USA! USA! USA!

Mark, your latest post reveals the fact that you know absolutely nothing about what you are talking about. It reveals that you will swallow anything you read or hear as long as it fits your agenda. You have tasted the Kool Aid and found it refreshing. Irish, don’t waste any more time on this thread; it will just encourage him.

Besides George “Macaca” Allen, Rush Limbaugh, David Duke, Bob “Harold Ford is dating white women” Corker, Glenn Beck, Donald Trump, and every member of Congress who votes to repeal Civil Rights. Or you could just open your eyes and check out the comments in newspapers where the racism is more obvious, and always coming from those who support Republican positions. Gore Sr. and Conners are examples of the old regime. No, not EVERY racist Democrat became a Republican, but they either reformed (Robert Byrd) or lost their standing in the party. Michael Steele acknowledged this racist migration (then tried to lamely spin it). I’m not saying all Republicans are racist, just that most racists are now Republicans or members of movements even further to the right. But here’s a challenge for you: find quotes from modern day Republicans that flatly deny racism and embrace racial equality. Have fun looking. As for suppressing the vote, show some courage and google that term as there’s no shortage of good research out there proving that fraudulent voting is so rare as to be almost nonexistent, while each “solution” to this nonexistent problem results in fewer people voting.

Mark, I never mentioned the word Democrat, but the passing of the Civil Rights Act does not mean that Democrats are the non-racist party. Far from it. The very policies that were supposed to lift up minorities have done nothing but destroy their families and condemn generations of them to poverty and a culture of entitlement. Its not something a true blue Democrat should be proud of, but those policies sure have secured a lot of votes. Space is short on this blog, so as an example I will give you a name that you might have heard of: Reverend Jesse Jackson! For the record, it appears he is not real fond of Jews. I would include Robert C. Byrd, but he has gone to meet his Maker. I have found that conservatives are color blind and wish for a color blind society. Conservatives favor policies that eliminate race from the equation and instead focus on merit, achievement, and self sufficiency. Liberals seem to find those principles ‘racist’. You will never convince me that Democrats are non-racist and Republicans are. You can substitute liberals and conservatives as well. My family is one of the few white families in my neighborhood. We all get along because, well, we are neighbors. I don’t think any of us care what color the other is as long as we respect each other, keep the yards mowed, and the noise down. Don’t try to sell me any of your wolf tickets because I seriously doubt if you have walked the walk as I have. With one exception, all the racists that I know are Democrats, and most of them are government employees and union members. So pound sand! You don’t have any idea what you are talking about and don’t seem to have any ideas that are original. You are nothing more than a sign carrying, slogan chanting, propagandist.

Mark, I’m certain Bull Conner and Al Gore Sr. died as racist Democrats. Just because someone is a southerner doesn’t make one a racist. I think your argument that “racist southern Democrats all became Republicans” doesn’t hold water. Could you name names of any present day Republicans who promote racist values? Or produce any evidence of Republicans suppressing voters? Requiring an ID hardly qualifies, since anyone can get one.

Actually, shuck and jive is a racist term that lives on solely for the purpose of likening folks to ghetto culture (hustlers and pimps). The Democratic party did something about racism: they passed the Civil Rights Acts, after which the racist southern Democrats all became Republicans, taking over the GOP and turning it into the party of code words and voter suppression. You do not have to be a racist to support a party that caters to racists, but you do have to be willing to overlook the racists in your ranks. I would enjoy hearing who exactly in the present day Democratic party promotes racist values. Some names, please!

I have found that the people that are always calling other people bigots are usually the most bigoted of all. I also find it interesting that liberals give themselves a pass on all things racial by simply calling themselves liberals, as if it absolves them of ever being called a bigot. Liberals actually have a long history of racism, dating back to FDR. So every time I read or hear some liberal playing the race card I feel duty bound to remind them that they have not earned a free pass, and that their accusations of bigotry on the part of anyone who disagrees with them can be met with equal accusations and pointed reminders of bigotry on the part of their leaders. So, why don’t we all just drop the bigotry talk. Neither side has any advantage over the other, and it’s just cheap talk, shuck and jive.

Mike, the fact that Mr Obama was a community organizer has nothing to do with his race. Why is it lefties always try to inject race into these conversations? One of the Repubs (Newt?) called Mr Obama the “Food Stamp” President and some in the press were all over him with charges of racism. The fact that there are more people on food stamps now than ever before, also has nothing to do with race. How about sticking to the issues?

If the lunacy of the past few days from gang of _ (how many is is it that are running against Obama?) continues it’s going to be so much fun. From Pawlenty’s idiotic Google test, to Herman Cain’s I won’t sign any bill longer than 3 pages, to Paul Ryan’s it’s ok to default on our debt for little while. I mean it’s fun, of course, until someone gets an eye poked out.

I know Vick, I know. When you see three comments in a row with full names as ID’s, they post within 15 minutes of each other and have the same general tone in all of them,it is definitely suspect. The anonymity that forums like this provide make so many of these closet bigots much more brash than they would normally be if they were forced to either reveal their real names and faces or to actually express their bigotry directly to the group their are attacking and deriding. Almost all bigots are spineless and secretive, unless they have the luxury of anonymity or the comfort and confidence that they are gathered solely with those of like mind. That is the nature of so much of what we see and hear everywhere in the media, especially when it comes to on-line media. The sad thing, Vick, is that comments like those I was pointing out can be heard almost anywhere in this area on any day in any given setting. All it takes is a sense of safety that all those within earshot are sympathetic, and out it comes. It is disgusting and repulsive.

Being an AMERICAN, I didn’t know it was possible for an American President to do anything to the Queen of England that AMERICANS would find offensive. Especially not stuff so subtle she herself didn’t seem to notice. Should he have curtsied? Does Fox News have a guide for how Americans should bow and scrape before royalty?

Santorum seems to be a decent candidate when you consider what kind of person Pres. Obama is. Obama worked for Acorn with all of it’s corruption, attempted to bring in Van Jones before all of the publicity, refuses to come up with budget cuts that are reasonable, comes up with a healthcare bill that takes over the whole industry. Obama some President. Lets hear about Santorum.

Today Santorum said that this country has been going downhill since 1965. I guess the passage of the Civil Rights Act really, really bummed him out. He’s considerably to the right of both Bachmann and Palin, and would be the most divisive President imaginable. On the other hand, nominating Santorum would be a great way to upset the Democrats so yeah, I expect him to get the GOP nod on the first ballot.
