Is this Sarah Palin Fatigue Syndrome?

Sarah Palin’s new book has been out for a few weeks. Her previous book, “Going Rogue,” was a #1 best-seller. By comparison, her new one, “America by Heart : Reflections on Family, Faith, and Flag,” seems to be a bit of a dud… I wonder why ? Perhaps some Americans are simply getting tired of Sarah Palin?

She certainly has maximized her exposure recently. One has to wonder why her new book isn’t doing any better that it is? After all, she’s on book tour for this book and she’s hitting all the hot spots across the heartland - places like my hometown of Des Moines (think Iowa caucuses, right?). She’s been a regular on Fox News. She has her own reality TV show. So, what’s the deal? Is this just not as good of a book as the first one? Or, are some of us developing Sarah Palin Fatigue Syndrome (SPFS)?

Her new book briefly cracked Amazon.com’s top ten best-sellers. Briefly. It did get up to #9 for a few hours. Right now it is idling around #30 in a holding pattern and it has been for a while. Books by Mark Twain (dead now for over a century), the rapper Jay-Z, and that Wimpy Kid are consistently outselling this new Palin book. There has not been a very solid response from the Palinistas this time around…

And over at Amazon.com there’s a rather interesting battle being waged between the customer reviewers. It seems that for every 5 star review that the Palin book is getting there are an equal number of 1 star reviews. And whenever the 1 star reviews outnumber the 5 star ones then some of the 1 star reviews get deleted by Amazon. Very curious. Check it out. click HERE:

I’m only half way through the book, so please - no one spoil the ending.

Thanks, Irish. I believe that it is essential to hear a lot of different viewpoints. And we can express our viewpoints politely. I recently had a cordial conversation with Newt Gingrich in an interview for this newspaper. He has been called a “bomb thrower” and worse things than that. Calling him names was not my purpose nor my job. I have interviewed a lot of people on WYSO, our local NPR station. Here are a few of the people who have been my guests on WYSO: Ann Coulter, Oliver North, Charlton Heston, Ted Nugent, John Kasich, Christopher Hitchens, etc. I don’t limit myself to conversations with “liberals.” All views are welcome here as long as they are civil and law abiding….

Squirrellygirl, Vick may be a perfect fit at npr, be he allows all points of view to post on this blog. As a relative newcomer to Vick’s site, you may not have noticed. Keep up the good work Vick.

Squirrelly, being disagreeable is one thing. Being rude is another. Disagreement doesn’t bother me. Rudeness does. Your comments are often in disagreement. That’s fine. But they can be rather rude, too. That is not OK. For example, your comment just now of “What a small world you must have in your own mind, Vic” is simply rude, Squirrelly. There’s no need for that. Do I insult your intellect????????? You can disagree with someone without resorting to insulting them, too. Try it, Squirrelly. If you persist in being rude then you cannot expect your comments to be posted here. Be as disagreeable as you like. Just don’t be rude. There is a difference. Try harder, Squirrelly. You can do it, I know that you can! Merry Christmas.

Not fair, totally biased. You only print blogs from people who agree with you. What a small world you must have in your own mind, Vic.

I’m not really surprised by Amazon deleting poor reviews. After all, their mission is to sell as many books (or Kindles) as possible and anything that interferes with that mission will not be encouraged. That being said, anything that Scarah can do to diminish her brand is fine by me. If she wants to promulgate her particular view of the world and others see through her for what she truly is, that’s great. Better in America’s seconds bins than the White House.

Maybe it’s because it doesn’t seem like there’s anything all that “new” in this book? It strikes me as being all homey and maybe a bit religious. I don’t know, I haven’t read either of her offerings, so I, like many, am judging this book by its cover. Coulter, Hannity, and Malkin can have best sellers that aren’t really “new” — “liberals are _” being the standard theme — and a Palin book that treads that path would possibly fare better. So, I don’t know that it’s “Palin Fatigue” so much as it is people taking a ‘pass’ at yet another schlocky, syrupy homespun collection of someone’s personal memories… someone who’s still young enough to have many more years of memories, and whose memories are still recent enough to hardly have had time to develop a good patina for nostalgia sake. I like Palin, I just have no interest in reading her recollections of family & faith.

I guess the “you betcha’s” the winks and the mama grizz is all wearing off. You can’t walk around with a fake smile, and an attitude, and expect people to not tire of it. A very phony and defensive personality seems to be her traits.

Obama’s books are worthy of Farenheit 451. I can’t stand him. A narcisistic egomaniac.

Love her! This badly written article is a lame attempt to steal some of her shine.

Kinda surprised her book isn’t selling more copies. But I’m sure thousands of authors would love to be #30 on Amazon.

We could end up in her freezer, and we don’t want to, so we’ll read the book to find out about her hunting habits.

Can’t stand her. Won’t read this even if it’s the last book in the library.
