Amazon.com slashes price on Kindle
Amazon.com sells more books than anybody. So when Amazon makes a move I pay attention.
The Amazon Kindle, their much ballyhooed electronic reading device was rolled out late last year at a price of 399 dollars. Initially, Amazon could not keep up with demand. The unit was back-ordered for a bit until supplies were ramped up enough to meet the demand.
How many Kindles has Amazon sold? That is hard to say. That information is confidential. The announcement today that Amazon is discounting the price on the Kindle by 10% seems to indicate that sales have slowed. Now you can buy one for only 359 dollars.
The economy is tightening up. Some consumers are choosing between 100 gallons of gasoline or a Kindle. Amazon must have a stack of Kindles to unload so they lowered the price? To check out the Kindle device click here.

Kindle? I admit to having checked the hyperlink you provided to find out exactly what it is. Aargg..grumble..is this the “final solution”for information control? “I read it on my Kindle,it must be true.” Who’s going to ensure that the galleys of books are reproduced as written in their original form? Or, that the foreign newspaper articles aren’t merely fiction, written by the minions of Karl Rove or Robert Mugabe? If this is the future I’m content to stay a buggy whip.By beastmomma

Well, I drink tea and fat free milk, but other than that I am totally with you Vick. I love the feel of a book and the chance to turn pages gives me such a peaceful feeling.By victor mickunas

To paraphrase the late Charlton Heston (who I interviewed back in 1995 on my radio program): they will need to pry the book from my cold, dead fingers Beastmomma. I love the feel of a book, the look of a book, the cover, the pages, scanning those pages until I nod off at night. Amazon was giving away Kindles to their best customers before the product was released. If I had gotten a free Kindle it would still be sitting in the original packaging somewhere, covered with dust and cobwebs. So, the answer is NO! I’m a book guy, a real book guy. I still prefer LPs to CDs. I prefer my coffee with caffeine, my milk with fat, my New York Times printed on newsprint. Call me a Luddite. That’s a compliment. (written on my computer, thank you).By beastmomma
