those Amazon top reviewers
Last summer I wrote some posts about the top customer reviewers over at Amazon.com. The mysterious Harriet Klausner and the amazing Grady Harp are among these top customer reviewers at Amazon. Harriet is Numero Uno by many miles over her closest competition.
Amazon customer reviewers who reach these levels are accorded special status. Call me fascinated. Apparently, I’m not alone.
An article today in SLATE Magazine indicates that some major media are starting to sniff around this story. Here’s the article by Garth Risk Hallberg:
I think we’ll be hearing more about this situation in the not too distant future.
One never knows what one will find IN THE AMAZONE.

There’s really no mystery here, it’s steroids. Look for Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens to crack the Amazon top 10 in their second careers. Seriously, I’m always amazed at what passes as a book review on Amazon. I especially like the ones that start off “I didn’t finish this book”, or “I only read the first 50 pages.” Argh!By Barbara Delaney

Vick, I was glad to see your name mentioned in the Slate article and I enjoyed your posts on the Amazon “top” reviewer debacle as well. It’s been interesting to see the reaction of some of these people on the discussion boards that Amazon hosts. Some of them take the “couple of bad apples” point of view, while others insist there’s nothing to see here, move along. The most interesting are those who continue to defend the activities of the Harp/Klausner type of reviewer. They resorted to their usual, name-calling and lies.
