Gilyard ready to impress Bengals and others in Indy

University of Cincinnati wide receiver Mardy Gilyard has let it be known it would be a dream come true to play for the resurgent Cincinnati Bengals. However, it remains unclear if the Bengals are interested in the play-maker.

No doubt the Bengals will have their eyes fixed on receiver prospects at this weekend’s NFL Scouting Combine. Gilyard is planning to make it hard for teams to overlook him.

“I have my trainer, Clif Marshall, all surprised about what I’m going to do at the Combine,” Gilyard said in a phone interview on Tuesday. “I have been working hard on my 40 time and L-Cone drill the last few weeks. I have to be on point in Indy. I know I’m going to catch the ball well, but it’s really based on how well I run. If the 40 time is on point, then the sky is the limit. I can’t wait.”

Gilyard said he will participate in all the drills when he reports to Indy on Thursday. The player knows the importance of having a good showing in front of scouts and is going in with something to prove.

“This is how I’m going to feed my family,” Gilyard said. “I have to take care of my mother and grandmother who have taken care of me all my life. I’m excited about taking my skills to the Combine and letting everyone know where I stand amongst the receivers. I think teams want to see me run in the low-4.5, high-4.4 range, but I’m going to make their mouths drop in Indy.”
