Prediction: Bengals will have successful 2009 draft

The Cincinnati Bengals aren’t messing around when it comes to the team’s approach to April’s NFL draft. The club is expected to take in visits from a few potential Top 10 draft picks in the coming weeks.

Bengals.jpg

Top ranked Baylor offensive tackle Jason Smith, Georgia running back Knowshon Moreno and Missouri wide receiver Jeremy Maclin are all scheduled to meet with the Bengals organization in Cincinnati.

The Bengals would be off to a great start to the draft if they could land any one of these three prospects with the sixth overall pick.

Smith would no doubt help shore up a worrisome offensive line. Moreno would provide the team with an electrifying runner and game-breaker. Maclin is a dual threat as a wideout and dangerous return-man.

Moreno’s slow 40-times at the Combine could have been the result of him adding 10-pounds of muscle to his frame since Georgia’s last game. However, the running back will be looking to improve on his performance at the school’s Pro Day March 19.

Oh yes, the Bengals always do so well in the NFL draft. They have more draft busts than anyone in any sport. The city of Cincinnati has the worst run teams in pro sports. Go Bengals and take the Reds with you.

Saying that the Bengals will draft well is like saying our President is going to solve our economic problems. LOL

Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don’t you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

It’s very good to know some of the names on the Bengals draft wish list. There’s a lot of star power in this lineup and all worthy of Top 10 consideration. Since Smith is not likely to be there when the Bengals make their selection at No. 6, I like the thought of a Benson-Moreno combination.

You want to know the best way to have a horrible draft? By picking Moreno or Maclin, that’s how! Running backs are a dime a dozen and I think that’s where we will use our supplemental 3rd round pick. We don’t need a WR at all. A good first round would be thinking about J. Smith (won’t be there) Curry, Monroe, Raji, Orakapo. Period end of list. Big C you usually know your stuff but you are so wrong on this that I think you had Chick write this for you.

The Bengals need help at off tackle more than anyjthing with the first pick. Jason Smith or Eugene Monroe would be my first choice then the big fat boy from Alabama Andre Smith would be my next favorite. With Anndre Smith they will have to babysit him and ride his a*s all the time to make sure he works out and doent eat his way out of football.

I don’t understand how you can say the Bengals will have a successful draft, THEN in the same breath, consider them drafting a RB or a WR!?!?! If they take anything but OL or DL…MAYBE a LB at WORST, then I’m still on the bandwagon. If they select anything else, I will have finally had enough and will be looking to throw my support and $’s somewhere else. There’s too much talent available in the top 10 in areas we desperately need, then to reach to a sexier pick with a WR or RB. Save it till round 3 or 4…please!

Ditto Brad. Every year the Bengals are in need of OL’s and DL’s yet continune to pick a WR and RB’s in the early rounds. Some day they will get a clue that the strength of past successful Bengal teams (and most other NFL teams) starts in the trenches.

Repeat after me: Linemen, Linemen, Linemen!

Yeah we all know the problems the Bengals have had BUT line line line line line line. Defensive and Offensive lineman are the word of the day. Moreno isnt going anywhere without somebody to block for and Palmer Will get hurt again if he doesnt get somebody in there to block for him. OBTW 1 lineman isnt going to do it. They need 2 free agent journeyman lineman (1 defensive,1 offensive) also and cut some of those clowns posing as a employee of the Bengals. The Bengals are so far under the cap they have to look up to the bottom. You might as well trade Ocho-Cinco and draft a receiver in the 2nd round too. Maybe get one 1st rounder for him. Maybe !!!

Here’s the thing with bandwagon Bengal fans… They’re narrow-minded! The Bengals could draft a high-quality O-lineman in the second round. The last time I checked, the New England Patriots selected Matt Light in the second round and received first round talent. It’s a good thing Mike Brown doesn’t listen to fans or the team would really be in bad shape. Go Steelers!

“Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? Call me crazy but if the Bengals can’t get Jason Smith, they better take Aundre Smith.I realize Smith might have ruined his NFL draft status with a self-destructive postseason trifecta of being kicked off the Alabama team for the Sugar Bowl, leaving the NFL combine without notifying anyone in authority, and then showing up for his pro day out of shape, but look at talent. What are we going to do, let this guy sit there until Pittsburg’s pick, and let them have the best OT since Orlando Pace. You guys all know the draft is a gamble anyway

I suspect Carson is behind this. He has been whining to Marvin and management in the offseason about needing more weapons. The Bengals will end up scoring a lot of points but the defense will be so bad that they’ll finish 8-8 or 7-9 all the time. They need major replacements on defense and have no Pro Bowlers on the defensive side of the ball. Jeanty can’t rush the passer or cover in space. Dhani is average. They need a DT and a CB to push Joseph. DEFENSE wins championships not OFFENSE. If you think Zimmer is some sort of guru you are smokin something. Bill Parcells almost fired him before Jerry intervened and if he was so good why didn’t current Falcons coach Mike Smith want him back? He is not in the league of Monte Kiffin,Spagnulo, or Jim Johnson.

I agree that O and D lines should be priority. Winning teams run the ball and stop the run. However, the Bengals’ luck with high draft picks is so bad that I think they might do best to trade down for more 2nd - 4th round picks & keep fingers crossed!

I am a neutral observer (Bucs’ fan). I tend to agree w/ the folks who favor a lineman. Get a RB later in the draft; take DT Raji or OT Monroe. Crabtree, however, I’d have to seriously consider. Cincy is in an enviable position as they will likely get a top 5 talent w/out having to pay as much money as,say, Detroit.

Cincinnati has had some big picks as of late…and due to ignorance and injury were unable to make good on those picks…i predict playoffs for the Bengals this year and great draft picks….

The first-round pick isn’t near as important as who is selected after. The Bengals need a new center, and that has to come in round 2 or at the very latest 3. We can get a quality guard or tackle for the o-line in the 4th or later - as one very informed nfl insider told me there is no Jake Long in this draft.

Come on Mikey! This draft has a pretty good selection of players that fit the Bengal’s real needs Ofensive Tackles, Center,DefensiveLinemen. Please don’t blow it with a RB or WR or some other “cute” position in the early rounds.

I, along with others, laughed when I saw the prediction as well… But everyone on here that is dissing the Bengals will be back on the bangwagon again like they did when they went to the playoffs. Remember: No one is forcing you to watch them. Turn off the TV and turn down ticket offers. Simple as that.

Who cares who they draft? The first round pick will get injured early, the second round pick will take time to come around, and the third round pick will get injured. Only two or three draftees will make the team and actually play, and the Bengals will finish a surprising 8-8.

How do you pass up a Larry Fitzgerald type of player in Michael Crabtree. As glamorous a position wide out is, this guy plays like a linbacker on offense. Grab the playmaker and stock up lineman with 2nd and 3rd round picks.

Mike Brown will pick in the first three rounds(and in no particular order) a QUARTERBACK, wide reciever, and running back.

By fsbdan

March 16, 2009 8:33 PM | Link to this

The Bengals need lineman, yes. But if Crabtree is there at 6, you have to take him - he’s sick. Regardless of what you need least, you take the best player available in round 1 - period. You can draft more for need in later rounds. The draft is deep with lineman this year and you can still get a pretty good one in round 2.

You guys are all ignorant who say the Bengals always draft bad. When was the last time they drafted bad? Dont even say last year. Caldwell is gonna be a stud and so is Rivers. Simpson has alot of upside. Chris Perry was the last bad draft pick. You guys are stupid. A bunch of whiners, girls or babies whichever you prefer. Pick a diff team if you dont like how its being ran. Its not rocket science. grow a set

Ron your a moron. Cincy finished 12th in overall D and first in forced 3 and outs. Knocked the D is stupid. Learn the game, the team and the league before you try to sound semi-sports educated.

With the six pick in the 2009 NFL Draft the Cincinnati Bengals select: Brutus Buckeye from The University of Ohio State. Mike Brown: “I feel Brutus can step on the field and have an impact from the first snap of the season. He is the type of guy who can put fans in the seats and get them cheering. Marvin Lewis:”Not sure what Brutus 40 time was or what is reps were on the bench but he comes from a winning tradition and could realy be the face of this franchise for years to come.” “My only concerns are finding a helmet big enough to fit him and getting that damn sweater around his big head and off.” Ocho Stinco: “Can’t be any worse then Christina Perry”

been a bengals fan since 1969, taking crabtree is stupid. It is essential to get carson a left tackle and a center. We have simpson caldwell coles chad henry carson will get them the ball if not in the hospital. A running back is important but the team does not run without carson.

If the Bengals draft Knowshon Moreno, I will move to Pittsburgh. In fact, if they do not draft one of the three talented OTs that are in this draft, I will probably slap a brotha’.

The obvious choice is the OL but that makes so much sense, it probably won’t happen. Knowing the inept Bungals, we’ll probably draft a kicker.

By Jimmy C

March 17, 2009 3:48 PM | Link to this

I’m in my twenties, but I’m old enough to know the OL is the most important part of a football team. Since we have the highest paid (avg. yrly. slry.) QB, why not protect your investment and go after an Orlando Pace type player in free agency? Secondly, I heard the Bengals are one of the top five most profitable franchises. Can anyone validate this? We have to draft OL or DL, unless Mike Brown is truly all about the money.

why we got rid of T.J i dont know but that was a stupid choice because we need some senior leadership, and if u expect chad to do then you have to be out of ur mind because chad is an a*s. But i agree we definitley need a decent offensive and defensive line this year or carson will be out. AGIAN

Guys….the Ben-gals will bungal another draft this year. Until Mikey Boy has a coronary and Katie sells the team this team will suck big time. Every time this year we have hope…that a good draft pick will come our way. Fact of the matter is Cincy sucks donkey balls and will until the whole Brown family is dead and gone.

I hear all this talk about Andre Smith’s stock falling. I just can’t see passing up on the biggest OL in this years draft. He has 35 1/4 inch arms longest of any OL and is 6’6 325pds bigger than anyone in the draft. He is a beast of a OL with a mean streak. If you dont belive me go to youtube and watch his pancakes. He is a beast of a run blocker. I would love hime to be there he was until the NFl combine suppoused to be the overall number 1 pick on alot of boards.

If they draft A Smith I will be be extremely upset. They could put henry and smith in the same room lights out @ 10 and meatloaf and potatos with orange uniforms with numbers.
