Bengals Nugent named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week
Bengals kicker Mike Nugent has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week by the NFL, according to a press release from the team.
Nugent, who starred at Centerville High School and The Ohio State University, scored all of Cincinnati’s points in Sunday’s 15-10 home win over Baltimore, going five-for-five on field goal attempts.
He connected from 36 and 30 yards in the second quarter, from 46 yards in the third quarter and from 38 and 25 yards in the fourth quarter. His 46-yarder erased a 7-6 Baltimore lead, and his 38-yarder put the Bengals ahead to stay at 12-10.
Also in the Baltimore game, Nugent reached the end zone on five of his six kickoffs, and he had three touchbacks.
The last Bengal to win a Player of the Week Award was kickoff returner Bernard Scott in Week 10 of last season. Defensive end Antwan Odom and QB Carson Palmer also won Player of the Week awards last season.
