This just in from the Bengals:
BENGALS PRACTICE SQUAD MOVES
The Bengals today made the following practice squad moves:
Signed CB Mike Mickens, a rookie from the University of Cincinnati. Mickens (6-1, 190) is from Dayton, Ohio (Wayne High School). He was a seventh-round selection by Dallas in the 2008 draft (227th overall). He was with the Cowboys in preseason, and was waived on Sept. 6. He was on the Dallas practice squad until Nov. 3, when he was signed to Tampa Bay’s 53-player roster. He was inactive for the Bucs for three games and was waived on Nov. 25.
Released CB Antonio Smith, a second-year player from Ohio State. Smith had been signed to the practice squad on Nov. 24.

TweetBengals pick up former Ohio State cornerback
Former Ohio State cornerback Antonio Smith has been signed to the Bengals practice squad, according to a press release from the team.
Smith (5-9, 190) is classified as a second-year NFL player. He entered the NFL in 2007 as a college free agent with Indianapolis, and spent the regular season on the Colts’ Reserve/Injured list.
He was waived by Indianapolis during the 2008 preseason and was briefly on the Detroit practice squad during the 2008 regular season. He was with Detroit and San Diego during the 2009 preseason, and was waived by the Chargers on Sept. 6.
Smith takes a practice squad spot opened when cornerback Geoff Pope was signed off the Bengals practice squad to the Philadelphia Eagles’ 53-player roster.
In other moves, the Bengals re-signed defensive tackle Orien Harris, a second-year player from Miami (Fla.). Harris (6-3, 300) is in his second stint with the Bengals this season. He was initially signed on Oct. 20. He played in one game and was inactive for two games before being waived on Nov. 17. He has 17 games of NFL experience, with one start, with 24 career tackles.
Cincinnati waived seventh-year G Scott Kooistra. Kooistra played in three games this season on special teams. He opened the season with Cincinnati, was released on Nov. 3 and was re-signed on Nov. 9.

TweetBengals vs. Browns on local TV, but tickets still available
The Battle of Ohio at Paul Brown Stadium is a sellout, but the Bengals have a ways to go before selling out their final 2 home games.
According to the Cincinnati ticket office, the game is the club’s 50th consecutive sellout in regular season and postseason play, and it will be aired live on CBS television affiliates in the Bengals’ home market of Cincinnati, Dayton and Lexington, Ky.
Though the blackout has been lifted, a limited number of single and partial-view seats remain available, and more than 6500 tickets remain available for each of the season’s final two home games — on Dec. 6 vs. Detroit and on Dec. 27 vs. Kansas City, according to a press release from the Bengals.
“We thank our fans for responding to our successful season by selling out the Cleveland game,” said ticket sales manager Andrew Brown. “But it’s clear we will need strong sales from this point forward to sell out for the Lions and Chiefs. We are working hard to achieve that end and hope that we can fill the stadium for our final two home games in the push for the playoffs.”
The Bengals have not had a regular season or postseason home game blacked out for local TV since Nov. 9, 2003.

TweetBengals’ rival Steelers may have to start 3rd-string QB at Baltimore
Every team in the AFC North lost Sunday, but it’s looking as though Pittsburgh had the roughest day of all the Bengals’ division rivals.
ESPN.com is reporting that Steelers backup quarterback Charlie Batch broke his wrist during Sunday’s loss to Kansas City and will miss 6 weeks.
Starter Ben Roethlisberger appeared to suffer a concussion during the game as well, leaving his status up in the air for this week’s game.
That leaves Pittsburgh with one completely healthy QB in third-stringer Dennis Dixon as it prepares to face Baltimore.
Dixon was a fifth-round draft pick in 2008 out of Oregon. In his NFL career, DIxon completed his only pass attempt for 3 yards and has 2 rushes for -3 yards.

TweetBengals rookie wins honor; Galloway in for workout
Rookie running back Bernard Scott has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week by the NFL, according to a press release from the Bengals.
Scott returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown to help lead Cincinnati to an 18-12 victory at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. In his first action as the No. 1 kick returner this season, Scott returned five total kickoffs for 206 yards (41.2-yard average) at Pittsburgh. The last Bengal to win an AFC Special Teams Player of the Week award was wide receiver Tab Perry in Week 13 of 2005.
In other news, ESPN is reporting that the Bengals had 3 players in for a workout Tuesday.
The most notable name of the group is wide receiver Joey Galloway. The Ohio State product was released by the Patriots earlier this season. Cincinnati also worked out defensive tackle Ed Johnson and safety Mike Doss.

TweetBengals sign troubled running back Larry Johnson
Troubled running back Larry Johnson has officially signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, according to a press release from the team.
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis indicated in his Monday press conference that if Johnson was signed he would be the team’s insurance policy. Lewis said Johnson would be fourth on the depth chart behind starter Cedric Benson, rookie Bernard Scott and Brian Leonard.
Johnson was reportedly released by the Kansas City Chiefs for making gay slurs on his Twitter account and questioning the abilities of his head coach.
Johnson, who turns 30 Nov. 19, brings a strong football resume to the Bengals. He is a former All-Pro who broke Kansas City’s rushing record in both 2005 and 2006.
To make room for Johnson on the roster, the Bengals have waived second-year DT Orien Harris of Miami (Fla.). Harris was signed Oct. 20 as a free agent and has played in one game (no statistics).

TweetBengals: Ocho fined $20K, safety Williams done, Purify activated
The $1 bill Chad Ochocinco offered an NFL official during the Bengals’ win over Baltimore Sunday, Nov. 8 is going to cost him $20,000.
According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the NFL has fined Ochocinco $20,000 for the gag.
In other news, the Bengals announced on Twitter that safety Roy Williams has been put on injured reserve, ending his season, and wide receiver Maurice Purify has been added to the active roster. Williams has not played for several weeks because of an injured forearm.
Second-round pick Jerome Simpson was also a candidate to get moved to the active roster, but it will be Purify who gets a chance to fill-in for Chris Henry, whose season is over after having surgery on his broken forearm.

TweetBengals avoid blackout; free tickets for members of military
To the surprise of no one, the Bengals announced Friday afternoon that Sunday’s home game against the Ravens will not be blacked out, according to a Twitter posting by the team.
Details about how the team avoided the blackout have yet to be released, but the game will air locally. Cincinnati has now sold out 49 consecutive regular season and playoff games at Paul Brown Stadium.
The Bengals, Local 12 (CBS affiliate WKRC-TV in Cincinnati) and Kroger worked together to ensure the blackout would be lifted. In honor of Veterans’ Day, Kroger will give away 500 tickets (250 pairs of tickets) to members of the Military, according to a press release from the team.
The tickets for the Military will be distributed at the following five Kroger stores Saturday, Nov. 7 during the hours designated below:
*Kroger Lebanon - (11 a.m.-noon)
*Kroger Union (11 a.m.-noon)
*Kroger Hyde Park (10-11 a.m.)
*Kroger Anderson Towne Center (1-2 p.m.)
*Kroger Fairborn (11 a.m.-noon)

TweetBlackout looms: Are the Bengals crying wolf again?
Are the Bengals crying wolf again?
Once again the team is saying it is thousands of tickets short of a sellout for a home game — 3,000 to be exact for Sunday’s game against Baltimore at Paul Brown Stadium.
Will fans step up and sell it out in time for the game to be broadcast on TV? I’m sure some will, but put your money on a combination of factors to come together to sell the game out.
Last time it was Motorola and Chad Ochocinco buying up the remaining tickets and giving them away for free.
Or perhaps the Bengals will actually be blacked out for the first time since Nov. 9, 2003, ending their streak of 48 consecutive sellouts.
On Thursday, the Bengals secured a 24-hour extension — until 1 p.m. Friday — to try and sell the game out.
We should know sometime Friday afternoon whether you’ll be able to tune in Sunday … or not.

TweetBengals bring back fullback featured on “Hard Knocks”
One of the featured players from HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series focusing on the Bengals this summer is back.
Fullback Fui Vakapuna, who was let go in the final moments on cut-down day, has been signed to the active roster from the Arizona Cardinals practice squad, according to a press release from the team.
Longtime backup offensive lineman Scott Kooistra was released to make room for the 6-foot, 260-pound Vakapuna, who was a seventh-round draft pick by the Bengals out of Brigham Young.
Kooistra’s release is probably more good news, as it likely means first-round draft pick Andre Smith is about ready to start contributing on the offensive line.
During the “Hard Knocks” series, fullback Chris Pressley beat out Vakapuna for a spot on the Bengals’ practice squad. Pressley, though, was picked up last week by Tampa Bay.
To fill Pressley’s spot on the practice squad, the Bengals signed rookie tackle Gerald Cadogan of Penn State, according to Bengals.com.
