‘Lombardi,’ ‘Q,’ ‘Race’ coming to Loft

The Human Race Theatre Company has announced a 2012-13 season of three plays and three musicals at The Loft Theatre in Dayton.

Everything but the classic musical “Oliver” be a first-time local production.

The lineup will include:

“Managing Maxine,” a comedy about sexy senior citizens by Janece Shaffer, Sept. 6-23.

“Oliver,” “right-sized” for the 220-seat Loft, Nov. 29-Dec. 16.

“Lombardi,” a drama by Eric Simonson about the legendary Green Bay Packers football coach Vince Lombardi that played Broadway in 2011, Feb. 7-24, 2013.

“Race,” a drama by David Mamet that feeds off of and fuels the flames of controversy, April 4-21, 2013.

“Avenue Q,” the irreverent, prize-winning puppet musical, which has made only a brief previoius appearance in Dayton on tour, June 6-23, 2013.

“Under a Red Moon,” a dramal about Britain’s “Acid Bath Murderer” and his psychiatrist, Oct. 18-28, 2012.

“Under a Red Moon” will be a season extra. The others will be part of the subscription season.

Friday films back on ArtStreet

Movie attendance is down nationally. Ticket prices keep creeping up.

But not everywhere.

The Friday Night Films series at the University of Dayton’s ArtStreet is still free and open to the public.

A new 13-week series begins Jan. 20 with Woody Allen’s 2011 picture “Midnight in Paris” followed on Jan. 27 by Tiffany Schlain’s 2011 documentary “Connected: An Autoblogography About Love, Death & Technology.”

The varied series will include recent releases, international documentaries, festival favorites and cult classics. Feb. 10 will bring “The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975.” Feb. 24 will be a LGBT short film fest.

Screenings begin at 9 p.m. in Studio B. ArtStreet is located on Kiefaber Street in UD’s South Student Neighborhood, just east of Brown Street.

Feb. 24: LGBT Short Film Festival: “The Rubi Girls” (2003), “Door Prize” (2009) and “Nothing Happened” (2010). Post-film discussion with “Rubi Girls” director Jonathan McNeal and the Rubi Girls.

March 9: “Glee: The Concert Movie” (2011), directed by Kevin Tancharoen.

March 16: “For Colored Girls” (2010), directed by Tyler Perry.

March 23: “The Kids Are Alright” (2010), directed by Lisa Cholodenko.

March 30: “Force of Nature” (2010), directed by Sturla Gunnarsson.

April 13: “I’m Not There” (2007), directed by Todd Haynes.

April 20: “The September Issue” (2009), directed by R.J. Cutler.

April 27: “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” (1975), directed by Milos Forman.
