Bashaw, Vectren win state arts awards
Kettering musician and artist Michael Bashaw and Dayton’s Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio have been chosen among the eight winners of the 2012 Governor’s Awards for the Arts in Ohio.
The awards will be presented at a luncheon ceremony honoring the winners and members of the Ohio Legislature on May 9, 2012, in Columbus.
Winners were selected from 67 nominations submitted by individuals and organizations throughout Ohio.
The award categories and recipients are: Arts Administration, Ed Stern & Buzz Ward, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park (Cincinnati); Arts Education, Toledo School for the Arts (Toledo); Arts Patron, Louise D. Nippert (Cincinnati); Business Support of the Arts, Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio (Dayton); Community Development & Participation, ArtsinStark (Canton); Individual Artist, Michael Jerome Bashaw (Kettering); Irma Lazarus Award, Barbara S. Robinson (Cleveland).
Bashaw, who has performed and taught in the Dayton area since the early 1970s, is known for his collaborations, Sound Sculpture concerts and installations in parks and galleries around the world.

I remember Bashaw when he was in the Slugs, a GREAT 80s Dayton band. You go Michael! A very creative talent & deserving of all the accolades!

I also enjoyed Michael when he was with The Slugs and have seen him since with Puzzle of Light. Extremely talented and passionate musician! Congratulations.
