‘Jersey Boys’ tickets go on sale
Single seats go on sale Thursday, Sept. 8, for the Dayton premiere of the smash Broadway hit musical “Jersey Boys.”
Sales begin at 5:30 p.m. during a special “Happy Hour” event at Ticket Center Stage in the Wintergarden of the Schuster Center, Second and Main streets.
There will be trivia contests, music and prizes.

TweetTina McPhearson leaving Victoria
Tina McPhearson, the Victoria Theatre Association’s vice president of programming for more than a decade, has resigned.
“I don’t have anything lined up at this point. It’s just time for me to explore the next chapter of my life,” said McPhearson, a Dayton native and Wright State University graduate who worked for four executive directors since joining the Victoria staff in 1992: Mark Light, Dionne Kennedy, interim leader Bill Bloebaum and present chief Ken Neufeld.
Her departure follows that of Michael Roediger, vice president for development, who stepped down Aug. 27 to become executive director of the Dayton Art Institute.
Katherine Eckstrand, VTA manager of education and outreach, has also resigned, to take a staff position with the board of trustees at Ohio State University.
Neufeld, Victoria president and chief executive, said the resignations were voluntary and “don’t indicate a purge. They were all valued staff members. These are key positions. We will be recruiting to fill them.”
McPhearson, who oversaw programming, education and audience engagement, was responsible for everything the VTA presented, from its Broadway, family, education, film and variety series to its Star Attractions.
She negotiated all contracts for those productions and did all of the budgeting. Her last day on the job is Oct. 10.
One of her personal milestones was booking the musical “Lion King” at the Schuster earlier this year. “We started negotiations to bring that show here 11 years ago,” she said.

TweetFilmmaker wins Aviation Hall award
Heather Taylor, who directed and produced the documentary “Breaking Through the Clouds: The First Women’s National Air Derby,” is the winner of the National Aviation Hall of Fame’s ninth annual Combs Gates Award.
She will receive the prize, which includes a $20,000 cash award, Oct. 11 during a special opening session of the National Business Aviation Association’s 64th annual meeting and convention in Las Vegas.
The Dayton-based NAHF is located in the Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
Presenters will be NAHF president Philip A. Roberts, former astronaut Eugene Cernan, aviation pioneer and cinematographer Clay Lacy and air show legends Bob Hoover and Sean D. Tucker.
“Breaking Through the Clouds” documents the first women’s national air derby, a nine-day race from Santa Monica to Cleveland in 1929. Competitors included Amelia Earhart.
Taylor, of Columbia, Md., spent 13 years researching, writing and making it. For more information about it, go to www.breakingthroughtheclouds.com.
