Cityfolk announces festival lineup
Dates, places and entertainers are set for the 2011 Cityfolk Festival July 1-3 at RiverScape MetroPark in Dayton.
The Carolina Chocolate Drops, 2010 Grammy winners for best traditional folk album; up and coming bluegrass mandolinist/singer Sierra Hull and her band Highway 111, and Chicago’s Lil’ Ed and the Blue Imperials, who “play like the world ends at midnight,” are among a swath of music makers who will provide the sounds for downtown Dayton’s biggest summer festival.
Some of what goes into all of that sound will be on view in a working display by some of the Midwest’s best musical instrument builders and repair people.
Activities for all ages will be incorporated from the dance pavilion to the Culture Builds Community area with K12 Gallery for Young People. Food and drink will be available in the usual wide variety.
Suggested donation at the gate will be $5, but those who want a few perks in a choice location may want to consider “Room With a View” privileges at $30 for a single day to $75 for the weekend. Full-festival price is $250 for a group of eight.
The three-day event will end with the City of Dayton’s annual fireworks display. Other entertainers will include:
Funkadesi, a Chicago-grown Hindi-Rasta-Yoruba fusion with musicians from India, Jamaica and the U.S.; two different doses of Louisiana — 1. Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas and 2. Big Sam’s Funky Nation; traditional Irish musicians Bua, singer-guitar slinger Junior Brown, El Savador’s Los Hermanos Lovo, Cleveland’s Harmonia, Cincinnati salsa band Son del Caribe and Dayton’s Eddie Brookshire Quintet.
Volunteers are needed. For more information about the festival, go to www.cityfolk.org/festival/festival.html
