Blue Sky Project names 2011 artists
The Blue Sky Project, a juried, international summer artist residency in Dayton, has announced its five resident artists for 2011:
Marin Abell, Newport News, Va.; Miami Valley native Rory Golden, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Kaz McCue, Interlochen, Mi.; Susannah Mira, Pueblo, Colo., and Sara Mitchell, Columbus, Ohio.
Selected from 55 candidates from the United States and 11 foreign countries, the artists were narrowed to 12 semi-finalists, then juried by a panel included Joel Whitaker, chair, University of Dayton Department of Visual Arts; Eva Buttacavoli, independent curator; Rodney Veal, Dayton-based choreographer and 2009 Blue Sky resident artist; and Blue Sky co-creators Mequitta Ahuja and Peter Benkendorf.
Hosted by the University of Dayton for eight weeks each summer, Blue Sky Project links five professional artists from around the world with 40 students ages 14 to 18 to complete projects proposed by the artists
