DPO to boost rock offerings
The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, which sold out its recent Beatles tribute, “Classical Mystery Tour,” has decided to expand its “Rockin’ Orchestra Series” from three programs to four in 2011-12.
Spokesperson David Bukvic said subscription sales have topped $100,000, “which is quite good for a brand new series.”
Yet to come in this season’s rock series are: “One of These Nights: Music of the Eagles,” Jan. 22, 2011, and “The Symphony Rocks: Music of Led Zeppelin,” April 2, 2011.
The DPO’s SuperPops Series is also looking up. Next season, the orchestra will be bringing back “Oz With Orchestra,” which all but sold out two dates in 2006-7. That’s the complete classic “Wizard of Oz” film, backed by the orchestra.
The complete 2011-12 season will be announced on Dec. 31. More information is available at www.daytonphilharmonic.com or (937) 228-3630.
