‘Porgy and Bess’ sets ticket mark
The Dayton Opera reports that “Porgy and Bess” has sold more single tickets than any previous three-performance event in company history.
Besides international opera star Kathleen Battle, who came to see and hear it on opening night, the production has attracted some other prominent visitors.
Ohio Arts Council executive director Julie Henahan, deputy director Mary Campbell -Zopf and newly appointed OAC board chair Jakki Nance from Cleveland all planned to attend the Oct. 29 performance.
They were guests of Sharon Howard of Dayton, who is on the OAC board and is a staff member of the Dayton Development Coalition.

Opera spokesperson Chuck Duritsch said “Madame Butterfly” was the previous “three-performance single- ticket winner at $141,000. We hit $150,000 on Oct. 26.” Sales don’t include season ticket sales.
“Porgy and Bess,” which opens the Dayton Opera’s 50th anniversary season, will be presented again at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, at the Schuster Center, Second and Main streets. For ticket information, call (937) 228-3630 or go to www.ticketcenterstage.com.
