Miami producer’s film wins prize
A documentary by a Miami University faculty member won the award for best feature documentary at the Black Hills Film Festival in Hill City, S.D., May 14-16.
“Weaving Worlds,” produced by assistant professor of anthropology Leighton C. Peterson, is about Navajo weavers, their relationship with reservation traders and how global trade is affecting them.
Directed by Navajo filmmaker Bennie Klain, it had its premiere at the 2007 South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, was nominated for best documentary feature at the 2008 Native American Film Festival in San Francisco, and was aired on Cincinnati ThinkTV channel 14 in 2009.
“Weaving Worlds” also won the prize for social justice at the First Peoples FIlm and Video Festival in Montreal.
