Jeg’s Series heads to Tri-State

ROSS TOWNSHIP — The 2011 JEG’S Ohio Junior Dragster Super Series kicks off Sunday, June 12, with round one being held at Tri-State Dragway.

The 5-race series will also make stops at Edgewater Sports Park in Cleves (June 18), Kil-Kare Dragway in Xenia (July 9), Pacemaker’s Dragway in Mt. Vernon (Aug. 14th) before making a return appearance for the series finale at Tri-State sometime in September.

Tri-State will offer a full program of NHRA-sanctioned bracket racing, plus the JEG’S Ohio Junior Dragster races on Sunday.

The Juniors race in scaled down versions of the adult dragsters on the 1/8-mile timing system, with engines that vary from stock 5 HP to highly modified Briggs & Stratton rear-engined motors (to 50 HP), with their performance capability limited / defined by the age of the driver. The Juniors earn points based on event entry (10-points) and 5-points for every round won. At each event, the racers are in 4 Classes by age groups: 8-9, 10-12, 13-14, and 15-17. The winners of each age group will receive a Class Trophy, and then face one another in a 4-car Shootout that will award a $300 Savings Bond to the winner, and a $200 Savings Bond to the runner-up. The overall points leader and runner-up after the last event will respectively earn a $1000 and $500 Savings Bond.

Rounds won at every event also count toward the individual home track points races. Those racers that attend all 5-events are eligible for a surprise drawing at the last race.

Trey Sizemore, from Bright, Indiana, was the 2010 overall points winner and will be defending his title this year.

Tri-State runs its summer Test & Tune format this Saturday, opening the gates at 4:30 PM for time trials and grudge runs from 5 p.m. until dusk or 9 p.m., on the 1/4 and 1/8-mile timing systems.

Gates open Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m., with time trials at 10 a.m. and eliminations starting at 1 p.m. Spectator and Crew passes Sunday are $10, and children 11 & under are admitted free.

Tri-State Dragway is located on State Route 128, in Ross Township, just over 3-miles north-east of the Colerain / U.S. 27 exit, and 3-miles south-west of Hamilton, Ohio. The track phone number is (513) 863-0562 (local call), and you can visit the track web-site for track and racer information at www.tristatedragway.com.
