Cup drivers test at Kentucky
SPARTA, Ky. — NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano, Mark Martin, David Reutimann, Greg Biffle and Travis Kvapil were at Kentucky Speedway on Wednesday for a Goodyear private tire test.
In light of the race being the very first at the track, Goodyear allowed Logano and Biffle to speak with the media during their lunch break.
“Goodyear has given us one tire to focus on. That’s the tire they want,” Logano said. “I think we’re in good shape. There have been no issues with the tires. If there were a problem, we’d probably see it now, with this being a relatively green race track.
“But as the track starts to rubber up, I think the tires will be fine.”
Logano said the bumps in Kentucky Speedway’s surface may make for an interesting race when the series makes its inaugural race visit on July 9.
“I like it, it’s good character,” he said. “You take the low line around here and you’ll be dealing with the bumps. And if you take the smoother higher line, you’ll be going a greater distance to get around. I’m going to try to have my car set-up to do both. In that respect, this track is similar to Las Vegas.”
Biffle says Logano could be the guy to beat at Kentucky. Logano, 21, has won the last three NASCAR Nationwide Series events at the track.
“Some tracks just suit a driver’s style,” Biffle said. “He’s got a good car, he likes the track, it suits his style and he’s got a racing team in Joe Gibbs Racing that wins everything in sight. Joey does a really good job around here.”
