Kids Weather Survival Week contests set

Kids Weather Survival Week has been scheduled for Feb. 1-7, 2009, state officials announced Thursday. There’s a poster and essay contest sponsored by Radio Disney stations in West Palm Beach and four other cities. Prizes include Disney tickets.

The tone may sound a bit grim, but the idea of preparedness is sound. Deadline for the poster contest for fourth and fifth graders statewide is Jan. 23. Details: redcross.tallytown.com

An essay contest for high-schoolers comes with a Jan. 20 deadline. Details: justreadflorida.com/hwaw/EssayContest.asp

I DEW love this new weather website,

www.weathergal.com

This crazy lady travels the world and presents silly weather factoids while highlighting exotic cultures. She makes it simple. She involves locals. The culture and energy she brings to her video blog is delightful. Check her out — if anything, sign up for the cute daily free weather text alerts (example of mine this morning: “Sunny, Hi 54, Low 39, Weathergal says: You Really Brighten My Day!”)
