Storm models show South Florida threat

computermodels1103.jpg

Don’t close the books on hurricane season yet.

The disturbed weather known as “Invest 93” in the southern Caribbean has a 20 percent to 50 percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone, the National Hurricane Center warned today.

And if it does develop, it might well point north. Two computer models “foresee a possible threat to the Bahamas or South Florida late this week or early next week,” blogger Jeff Masters wrote at weatherunderground.com. “I give 93L a 40% chance of eventually becoming a hurricane.”

Upper-level winds are favorable for some development of the system, NHC forecasters said.

I just purchased a home here in Boynton. How soon would you recommend to board up my windows and are their any shelters nearby. Also wanted to know what/if anything do shelters provide here in the states. Do they have gormet coffees or should I bring my own. What about bedding are their actual beds, cots or just sleeping beds. I have a bad back and need to be prepared.

Hansel,

They have all of the gourmet cofees, condiments, steak&egg breakfasts,Sealy Posteurpedic King Size beds, private rooms, conjugal visits from Playboy Bunnies…everything man. You got it. No worries. Welcome to Florida!

hansel: not to worry just yet and if there is a threat the local news is good about giving several days notice so you will know when to board up and what to do. the shelters are not like a hotel with gourmet anything but they do have a place to sleep sometimes beds sometimes cots. it is unlikely to get that bad though.

Hansel, Remember to bring your own coffee grinder, because FEMA doesn’t provide one at the shelter..

Ridiculous. The GFDL and HWRF, which are the 2 models that develop the storm and bring it this way, both contradict themselves by forecasting tremendous westerly shear over the FL peninsula throughout the 5 day forecast period.
